I found that very video after posting this thread. Ideally I'd have done some research prior to doing the job but everything is very last minute in our job.

She fully admitted not looking at the car properly or taking anyone with her when she bought it. It was just a means to an end and something fairly reliable.

The car has either been in a bump or just been really badly looked after. The paint rear bumper is cracked, the rear quarter was that dull flat and lifeless paint.

She's now got to the stage where she can look at a nicer car and can afford to be a little bit picky with it so won't make the same mistake again.

IIRC VW cars from that era, including Tornado red, have a clearcoat. Not single stage. Sounds like a bad paint job in that case.

Scholls S20 Black with a white hex pad, although it’s now a very strong

Haha I would say so!

Thanks for the reply, I've a red (read very pink) ford sierra to buff so just wanted to see what some others are using.

I've Meguiars Ultimate Compound, G3, Rupes compounds so i think it might just be a try and see approach
