Smile My car of the day, new Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R

V8 engines are fast becoming a rare breed so if you fancy this Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R then you'd better get your skates on as Vauxhall will only be allocating 15 cars for the UK. The VXR8 has always been a lovable anachronism and this latest version with it's Chevrolet- sourced 6.2 litre V8 and 6 - speed manual transmission is the most anachronistic of the lot. The VXR8 develops 586 BHP with 740 NM of torque which puts in in to Mercedes AMG E63 and BMW M5 territory. You do get a large and practical four-door body with ample rear cabin space. Power is delivered to the rear wheels with stability control, magnetic ride control dampers can be adjusted between touring, sport, performance and track mode. You could argue that the VXR8 is expensive and maybe over-styled and is an acquired taste and if a thundering V8 saloon is your thing then don't discard this VXR8 and with such a small run, this will most certainly become collectible.

Key specs:

Price: from £74,500
engine: 6.2 litre supercharged V8
power/torque: 587 BHP/740 NM
transmission: 6 speed manual rear-wheel drive
0-60 in 4.2 seconds
top speed: 155 MPH

like it?

I'm sure it's fun to drive but the interior is a big let down for me. It's not cheap either!

That is just hideous and for me, way too expensive for what it is. It's also not that spritely for something with the best part of 600bhp.

I'll be the odd one out and say I love it
I'd happily have one
Although parting with that cash for a Vauxhall would be tough I reckon it'd be a beast.

They've got worse looking and more expensive with every revision. There was a time they were considered a bargain.

Got to be a hardcore fan to consider buying one.

Should be 30k cheaper... At the price it's ridiculous.

I owned a Monaro VXR for 3 years from 6 months old. Absolutely loved it, but don't like the styling of the latest VXR8, plus the pricing now defeats the object of what the Monaro and VXR8 once were.

I like it because it's off the wall mental, which is exactly what that kind of car should be.

Agree with others regarding the price though, that's really quite a lot and realistically you'd get something else in that price bracket unless you were a huge VXR fan.
