Clear coat peeling - what went wrong

Iíve had my Range Rover Vogue for 3 years, itís now 10 years old. And the clear coat has started to peel away.

While the car lives outside it does get a clean every week and regularly treated with a range of wax products since I bought it 3 years ago. These include 1Z wash/wax shampoo, chemical guys quick detailer, various spray on wax products, Mothers tradional wax, and most recently BH double speed wax.

What went wrong?

Where do you live? I have been in the middle east and saw clear coat fail quite a few times but it's obviously quite a bit warmer than the UK. Is there much environmental pollution in the area? But it's probably like has been mentioned poor quality paint system. Land rover paint is quite soft, do you know if it has been machine polished much?

Thanks all for the replies. Iím in Australia, and live close to the coast. I use a pressure washer occasionally. Iíve used a machine polisher on it once about two months ago. Iíve only just started using one so applied it very carefully and on a low speed.

We have Peugeot the same age which hasnít had as much care. The paint is good other than on the plastic areas.

So it could be poor quality LR paint/clear. Hereís a pic.

whats the temperature like where you are, although i see some cars with failing clear coat here in the uk, its usually the very neglected looking cars. However when i was in Spain a few years ago you could see the Sun had bad effects on the bonnet and roof of quite a few cars with the dark colours generally suffering worse.

although the part in the middle of the picture has the clear missing is it also cracking down the strip on the left hand side aswell

You are correct. The paint on the plastic strip is worse. I wasnít too upset with that as fairly easy to repaint a small plastic part with reasonable success. I wouldnít be happy to tackle a whole roof.
The temp can get up to high 30s C.

You see a few neglected older cars here with peeling clear.
