Showing a VW Golf some TLC.

Good Evening DW.

Today I have been working on a friends VW Golf. She is going to be selling it and wanted to give it some tlc before advertising it.

The car is a VW Golf 2009 with about 100k on the clock. It's (supposed to be) red but through age and what would appear a poor paint job it was a bit faded and pink.

The wheels are in an awful state and are due to be replaced so didn't do a great deal with them. There were numerous dinks and scrapes on the Golf and even a little bit of moss build up on the windowsill on the nearside.

I think the best this car has seen is the local scratch and shine; the swirling was huge and all over. Unfortunately due to the time restraints I wasn't able to do a full correction.

I didn't know what to expect come the polishing stage, having never detailed a faded red car before. Sadly, the before and after pics don't really do it justice; suffice to say, it was night and day.

Process is the normal snowfoam, fallout & tar remover, snowfoam, wash 2bm, clay and all the relevant rinses in between each process. Then on to polishing.

To polish, I used the Rupes Duetto that I got in the Britemax sale just before Christmas. I have recently bought some Rupes polish too so thought this would do the trick.

I really enjoyed working on this car and would've loved to have gone that bit further and given it a full correction. Hopefully the photos give you a little idea of the results. The owner was ecstatic and couldn't believe the difference. Makes the effort (and knackered back) all the more worthwhile.

Thanks for looking.

The rear quarter after a blast with the Rupes Duetto: medium pad and medium polish.

Top half done

All done

A little half and half:

The rear of the car was in direct sunlight and showed how bad the swirls were. A few before's and afters:

Great job,red is so often poorly looked after, but as a detailer its a great showcase for what can be achieved.

I think the Duetto is quite an underated machine, I love my one.
