2009 Saab 9-3 1.8t Sportwagon - getting there

Having parted with my S-Type due to chronic rust, I decided that I wanted something more practical and suited to someone with a family of four plus dog.

I've always had a thing for Swedish cars and particularly Saabs and have fond memories of my old remapped NG900 needing two lanes of the motorway when the boost came in. I eventually settled on a 2007 9-3 1.8t Vector Sport Sportwagon. Which confusingly has a 2.0 turbo engine. It was fairly cheap for a car a little over 10 years old and everything worked (nearly).

So far I've repaired a scrape on a wheelarch, fixed an exhaust rattle, changed the oil, and that's about it. My son is in the process of repairing my door mirror cover hence its absence at present.

I was told that Poorboys Black Hole was brilliant on black cars so I bought some and finally got chance to give it a go today. This is the result of snowfoam, whatever car shampoo was cheap in Home Bargains, my clay mitt, Black Hole, and a layer of EGP.

It would really benefit from machine polishing, something I've avoided until now. However, the A/C compressor has died so that's more pressing.

Nice car, also a favourite of mine, a car that I am looking out for.

I bought a really cheap auto 1997 NG900 from ebay about 10 years ago, everything worked well at the time and continues to do so, it is one of those cars that is passed around the family, everyone likes it. All it has is a once a year service, no other costs (although I did put a set of SAAB alloys on it 5 years ago.)

Your Sportwagon is in another league though Keith, very envious.

Looks in very good condition from those photos. I have a 93 sportswagon my self, pre-facelift and not quite as tidy as yours. Very underrated cars.

Looks absolutely superb!

Some of the prep and effort people put into their cars on here amazes me and i take my hat off to them, however its nice to see someone make their car look great with relatively minimal layout in terms of cost and effort.

I'd love to spend £££ on products and hours on end doing my car but having a little one along with everything else in life time and money is restrictive. Well done bud

I paid £361 for my 2.0T Talladega about 5 years ago and ran it for about 2.5 years and nearly 30,000 miles (taking it to somewhere over 170,000). Taking the purchase price into account, it's probably the best car I've ever owned and it got more positive comments than anything else I've ever had too.

Nice. Love Saab’s, had two 9-3’s in a row.

Was looking for a 9-3 estate but bought ended up with something else.

If your near Birmingham, I’ve got a wing mirror in black you can have.

Lovely looking car and look great in that colour, I really miss mine I had a silver saloon although mine was a 53 plate it was definitely one of the best cars I’d had and it went like poo off a shovel being a top spec aero. The only complaint I had about was the stereo was rubbish but the noise the engine made helped overcome that.

Thanks but the cover is just waiting on my son doing his last GCSE today and buffing it then it'll be going back on.
