BMW 740I, a labour of love?

Hey guys, been AWOL for a little while, and kind of still am.
The 106 is still under transformation and I'm currently working on my step father's gorgeous 740 ready for a wedding.
This has been owned by him since 2001 but with failing health it's had zero attention in the last few years. Little sister is getting married and would like to have the car at the wedding so here is where her story starts. I'm very much hoping I get to have a hand in this for many years to come but time will tell..
Been driving her around and what a car!
A huge 4.4 v8 lump tucked in the front with utter luxury everywhere else, ok, maybe not so luxurious to most now but this car is 20 years old and I drive french so my point stands.

Firstly here is the girl, she's been kept running with the odd trip here and there but driven and dumped zero tlc, lives on the drive with the front end sat under trees

black horrible sappy algae tree sap, bird bombs you name it it's on here!

even the slugs and snails have had a chew

the other side

just look at that gloss!!!

bit of wheel action.. not too bad here

mmm ok maybe not so good

Armed with very limited gear.. namely my DA, clay shampoo and mitt with not a whole lot of anything else here we go!

only 2 photos, but this was 3 hours of washing!

OOOOH the swirls, OOOH the scratches but already a million times better

MY GOD BMW PAINT IS HARD!!!
A quick clay first, again not got much kit with me so a proper detail will come later.
used turtlewax T10 heavy compound on the orange hex. single stage polish just to get a reasonable finish for now.

doing this car in stages as its in regular use so today I managed the bonnet, passenger front wing along with a quick hoover and some of the worst marks removed from the interior.
Once each panel has been done have coated with a Dan ODK special sample
.

Today was a battle between rain showers but not too shabby for what i@ve managed.. watch this space!

Oh.. then it rained!

Can see what's been protected and what hasn't here

Last one for today.. been out for a drive to the hospital so not quite as clean but slowly coming along!

Sorry for so many photos, but would be good to compile a progress report as thick as it's history
I really wish I'd taken photos of what was sat under the windscreen and in the water channels at the boot side, literally handfulls of leaves bugs moss and almost compost!

What a lovely big motor, storm. You've really resurrected the paintwork there, and it'll be stunning again for your sister's wedding. I had a drive in a friend's 728i a few years back and I remember how tight a driving car it was for nearly 20 years old.

Fantastic work, keep the updates coming!

So are you swanning around in it while your 106 is in the shop?

I'm currently up country with step father poorly in hospital so yeah swanning around in the old barge and getting faaar too comfortable in it, so much power! and so comfortable, a real drivers car built for comfort, it is simply gorgeous. A bit soft on the suspension and not as sharp as i'm used to.
The 106 is in the bodyshop and ready for spray now, but has had to be put to the side until I get home as there's added spectraflake going into the paint and he wants me there to say 'when' on the amount of sparkle added

Brilliant work. Keep this thread updated.

Is there a possibility this car may become yours at some point in the future?

At this stage unsure. I would live to have it although running it would be a different kettle of fish! And it would not like my Cornish roads, boats belong in the sea down there not the road hahaha
