BMW E36 318is

Thought I'd share my E36.

I bought this in 2012,

Was an original unmodified car, Mileage was high at 181k but had a near complete service history with it so it was looked after.

1999 E36 318is E36 Coupe:
Production date: 1998-12-23

Few small changes over the first few years,

Boot door got removed in favour of a spoilerless one, Also removed the alloys it came on as they were replicas.

Original Half Leather got changed for Alcantara Vaders,

328i BBS RC041 (7.5j all round)

And Ambers got fitted,

Stainless Catback Peco 3.5" Outward Rolled Tip and painted the diffuser black.

And that's how it stayed for a while.

Then it just sat about for a few years, Many an E36 came and went but I just couldn't let this one go.

So decided it needed to be driven, So fresh NCT (Irish MOT) until 2018 and has just ticked over 182k

Wanting to keep it as original BMW as possible, it was time to find some original staggered alloys.

Initially wanting Suflowers but couldn't find a set, I found a set of freshly refurbed 328i Staggered BBS RC041/2 It did mean a 4am start early one Saturday morning to collect though!

Fitted some 215/45 budgets I had and ordered Nexen SU1 235/40 for the back. (Will replace the budget fronts in the next month with SU1!)

I'v also bought a pair of original Aluminium Doors for it, Will refit a Spoiler IF I can find a genuine GT 4-Piece.

Then refitted the 318 is badge to stop it being an M3 'Rep' and some genuine BMW roundels, Hardwired in a Nextbase dashcam so it now comes on/off with ignition and wired up my US corner lights and got rid of the 4x4 look.

Hard to picture but, these are now park lights... They flash a LOT brighter for indicator.

Replaced some bulbs.

Fresh cabin filter.....

Convertibles and M3 came with an extra brace underneath, So i got one and gave it some fresh paint,

Also got my drivers Vader done, Wasn't bad but did have a pin hole and foam was gone on outer lower bolster, Had a section replaced and stitched as original. Used a rear seat bolster from a compact to salvage material so match is 100% ..... It's the inner section on the left side that's been done.

Then bought another E36,

Had a few tasty bits which I planned to remove for mine and then sell off the rest, Full M3 front brake conversion, Coil On Plug conversion kit, Factory PDC Kit, Strut brace, 7 Button MID etc....

So started off by swapping over the PDC,
Retrofitted PDC, Actually fairly simple... Earth and power from rear light cluster and then just a feed to the gong in the footwell.

Tidy rear end,

Correct PDC Bumper Support,

Hole drilled to feed sensor loom through, Also notice the CD Changer/OE warning triangle fitted ages ago and the AC Schnitzer style rear brace.

Loom in place, Original E36 had threaded cable ties on the rear panel which mine didn't... So taped in place.

And done,

Have wanted to fit an 18 button OBC but really couldn't care less about MPG and other info (And i wasnt brave enough to wire it in as its very involved) so done a simple 7 Button MID retrofit instead. Also ticked over 183k

And an SPR front strut brace,

Have a 5 liter washer bottle to fit aswel, Need to paint the rocker cover and manifold and try find a decent original battery jacket.

Very nice and very impressed it's still going strong and looks that good a further 5 years down the line

What made you replace the boot lid with a non spoiler one if it was a standard fit ?

Original one was rusty around the boot lock, Was offered a free boot door that never had a spoiler and I prefer the clean look. (& Majority had a spoiler and I wanted to be different)
