Now read through, and another excellent write up. Loving the van never really paid much attention to these as I though they where just a people carrier until I spotted a group last weekend down south, after having a look at them I think yours is a perfect spec and a great way to spend your inheritance on something that will give you loads of memories.

Looks fab.

What did you use for the headlights, a kit or bits and bobs?

I’m now looking at Bongos on eBay, something I thought I would never do.
Yours is incredibly smart and they are terrific value, enjoy it

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments. I'm glad you've enjoyed the read.

Next trip is at the end of this month - joining family on a trip to Norfolk. Mini oil filled radiator is on order!

Aware of these as we had one in at my mates garage for a bit of work. Great vehicles, apart from the slightly bonkers name!

Scene tax - that's a term I've been trying to think of. Something I was all too familiar with when I had my Mk4 and Mk5 Golfs!

Yes, the name is bonkers to say the least - you'll notice mine is de-badged I remember seeing them on the road as a kid and thinking the name - Bongo Friendee was hilarious!

Totally agree - they are everywhere. At the festivals, the overwhelming majority are VW's - and probably for good reason. But it does feel a bit like the default choice. Also, they're all so unique and customised - they somehow all look the same

I'd love to claim I could manage all that on my own, but I'd be on Gaviscon for weeks

Is there much badge snobbery from the VW brigades?

Snobbery - oh hell yes. Not a single VW will look at or acknowledge you. But you see a Bongo coming the other way and everyone in both vehicles is waving madly whilst the driver accidentally sprays the screenwash instead of flashing the lights because the stalks are the wrong way round

I think it's a real shame - because no matter what brand you drive, we still all have a common interest and hobby and go to the same places to do it!

Big question, if the engine isn’t under the bonnet, what is?
My inital response was going to be "Not a lot!" but now I think about it - it's actually quite full under the bonnet, despite there being no engine! The coolant reservoir, brake fluid reservoir, screenwash, starter and leisure batteries, radiator and associated gubbins, fuse boxes (and in my case - the spilt charge system) there's also a lot of ducting which I think is for the heater etc.

I just went and took a picture as I didn't have one.

Just bits and bobs - varying grades of wet and dry paper, then a polish applied with the DA - I'm afraid I can't remember which - presumably a fairly aggressive one!

What a brilliant vehicle! Thanks so much for taking the time to write the thread up (especially after doing the updates to the Mini one), I can totally see how your writing style means it takes a while...but as a reader it is so easy to follow and understand so I appreciate the effort.
