The car was just under tens years old when the warranty was taken out and it’s been extended annually. Post #2

Should mention that I've had 4 Lexus vehicles since 2004 for 8 years, 5 years, 3 years and 1 year. I don't bother with the warranty. These things are bulletproof

Whilst they are very reliable, as the OPs experiences have shown, they are not completely so and he would have been significantly out of pocket were it not for the warranty.

Yep. Out of the hybrids the GS450H 3rd gen has a few known issues, more so than the other hybrid models like the RX/CT and so would be worth having cover on.

The car has been extremely reliable and several of the repairs are not specific at all to the GS450h but unlucky things at times - air con pipe, drop links, corroded wiring and sensors - could have happened to any car.

As percymon has said, the car needs to be under 10 and 140,000 miles (and pass a Lexus warranty inspection) to be covered. When I bought mine, the car was 9 years 9 months old and I bought a 2 year warranty.

I have now done 30,000 miles in the car and it’s topped 100,000 miles, still under warranty until the end of July. Aside from moving into it’s second set of winter tyres now, front brakes being done and some work I have done myself (including rear brakes and rear shock absorbers when I bought it), everything else has been covered by Lexus extended warranty.

My last Lexus, which I had for 3 1/2 years and 50,000 miles had huge amounts of warranty work done from new do warranty, even for myself as a diehard Japanese car enthusiast, is essential for me. Subaru have been the only cars I have owned that have been proper bombproof, seconded only by Toyota.

The dealer quality has been essential too.

Just being looking at a 2005 SC430 at an MD. They have offered me 1 years warranty free and an additional 2 years if taken within the first 12months at £800. I'm sorely tempted. If it had bee a face lift model, would have said yes there and then.

So you got a Lexus warranty on a 2005 car?

I found one on a 2008 plate, which was a week over the 10-year warranty and Lexus would not honour it. So I am on the lookout for one.

Lexus Chester offered it on a 2nd hand SC. They had sold and known the car from new.

Thanks that’s funny because when I spoke to them they refused me a warranty on an 08 plate GS450h as it was a week old.
