Just read that the turbo I posted earlier that was coming up at Brightwells went for £5400 and apparently needed a good bit of work done to it.

Maybe the love is coming back for BL

Cheers mate. I actually text rojer386 earlier tonight about catching you when we're down.

If I remember though i think I made mention that you'd have probably changed Taz by the time I finally get this one on the road

That'll be about right ours was a 91 'H' plate it was my mum's initially then my brother bought it off her when she was getting rid of it so washing the family for years. The red was more a wine colour can't remember the correct name but I'm certain the blue was bahama blue.

Don't remember an Orion version I know there was an Orion equipe around the same time which was a special edition as well and was a 1.3 IIRC but I am going back a few years

Bit more to add tonight as i've uploaded some more pics onto Imgur...

As per my previous post i'd started to strip down to see what damage lay beneath the surface.

Started with the boot to get a look at the floor, suspension turrets and rear valance where it meets the boot floor which is always a bad spot. Wasn't too bad though...

I removed the boot carpet and folded up the rear seats looked pretty decent on first inspection although needing a clean.

Then I checked where the rear valence met the floor. It was only later that I realised that this was a crap photo and was as out of focus I didn't take another so you don't really see the rust

This picture however shows what I ended up cutting out although as I said wasn't too bad it could have been a lot worse!

and another shot from the underside..

I took off both front wings which are just bolt on / bolt off as the inner wings can be rust prone however although needing a right good clean they were mainly rust free with only some surface rust which I discovered when I started cleaning the years of muck and grime away.

Offside with the wing removed

Nearside with the wing removed

The wings only had surface rust on them but i'll cover that later.

In general I was more than happy as we've all heard of horror stories of rust being covered over and when you actually get in to it it's a minefield however I was satisfied that there was no serious rust only surface.

As I mentioned earlier the suspension was shot and here's a picture to show the extent. Wasn't too fussed about this as I had plans for the suspension anyway

I'll move on to the front end and floorpan in another post.

Thanks for reading and all comments welcome

So this is a 1988 F reg MG maestro with 91k on the clock and with only minor surface rust??????
I didn’t realise they made these without rust, I’m almost disappointed you haven’t found any holes you can climb through

Keep the updates coming bud

Mick, he has also been threatening to drive the Stro to a car show for a few years now. Maybe if we give him a bit of grief on this thread he may have it on the road sooner than expected.
