So. Here is something new to my personal collection.
A new car, a new colour. A new project, but nothing like my other projects I guess.

It is an Audi, once again. an A1 Sportback, 1,6 TDi.

Optional extras were:

-bi-xenon
-led tailights
-black interior headliner
-fog lights
-leather 3-spoke steering wheel
-leather handbrake and gear boot
-steering wheel controllers for audi multimedia
-Audi multimedia system [navi, bluetooth, etc etc]
-electronic clima system
-armrest
-parktronic system
-7,5x17 wheels
-sport seats
-cruise control system

Not bad listing for a daily I think.

So here it is when I collected it two days ago.

Audi Dealership Delivery-Room

First meeting with the Golf

I introduced one to the other.

My other Audi, the blue one, was not there to talk with them

They went out for a ride together

Not a bad wheel to begin with - Needs more lowz- I know

Some quick shots of the interior

Love the lines

Hello diesel power, first time in my garage

First thing I did after getting to know the car, which gives the feeling of a much bigger Audi to be honest, in terms of quality, I did this

No giving heads up for dealerships from me

Much better

Will propably also debadge the rear for a cleaner look

Dont know if you noticed, but car is equipped with some stripes from factory. At first I was like, I will remove them, but they are rather discreet to be honest, matte ones, and will see.

While I was there, I noticed that my THULE roof rack was over the car.
Just saying, hehe.

Cheers guys :)

This just keeps getting better, but without going too loud or loosing it’s OEM plus look (if you listed every mod you had done looking at the car you would never imagine it)

“I wanted to do it right, or not at all” - best quote ever, think a few others should take that approach when they decide to do things.

Really like how the interior turned out.

It's been a while since I updated this, mostly due to lack of time, not lack of things happening.

However let's take things slowly, hopefully in the actual time frame they happened.

Got the car on the dyno

Then, I removed the rear bumper to match the lower trim in gloss black

Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

While i was there I went for a full bumper respray to make it fresh

Bought some new OEM hardwate to convert the tailights to the Facelift ones that i had bought a while back. All this lot in the picture, costs no less than about 100euros. It sucks I know

Here with the bumper installed in gloss black as well. I liked the rear end it was very fresh and these tailights when on, are very smart. I will show you in pics to follow.

Changed the boot seal as well which was looking tired

Then, seeing that the talights were looking very white at the indicator i thought i'd give it a go with red tint like i always to see what they looked like

What i didnt like is the engine movement back and forth, when letting go off the gas pedal , and while shifting, despite the Powerflex rear dog mount. I obviously needed new mounts , oem or something even better. I could find nothing available for my car - as always- so i searched and talked a lot, wit companies. I think i came across something, which, fingers crossed will fit. If it does actually fit, we will have to see how the vibration is inside the cabin as well, as these were not intended to go on a diesel car. Along with the engine mounts, I also ordered some black - yes black - powerflex mounts for some suspension components. I will let pictures do the talking

And now for the engine mounts - I bought the Vibra Technics, great quality - lets hope they fit. They told me the dog mount is not suitable for non-petrol cars, and if i see that's the case, i will use my existing Powerflex Diesel specific one. As for the other two, although not listed for my car, they told me they would fit. Bought them through Darkside Developments, and they told me that if they dont fit, I can return them and get my money back. Let's see.

So then naturally, i just had to find some time to put all the things, and see how it went. First stress of the process was to see of the mounts would actually fit, since, they were not listed for my car. However everyone reassured me after a lot of photos going back and forth that they would actually fit.

Driver's - Gearbox side

Airbox removed

What a weird shaped mount. Seems like they will be ok though

DSC_0472 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0473 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0480 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Marked my bolts, cause you know me.

Installed the airbox back in- needs a good clean, LoL

DSC_0495 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Now, for the passenger's - engine side

DSC_0481 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

This is the actual mount

DSC_0482 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

This was very tired. Side by side with the VT one

Installed in place

DSC_0487 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0490 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0497 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Finally the lower mount - no problems here

Out with the old oem mount with the Powerflex insert

Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

In with the complete replacement of the VT one

DSC_0492 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0494 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

I was very anxious as to how it would behave, given this is a diesel engine, and vibrations are there. Even in a petrol car, when you go to stiffer mounts, you can feel it in the cabin. However, no drama. Yes, when the car is cold, and the ac on sometimes it can get a little harsh, but nothing major, and only at idle. Feels very very nice, and no going back whatsoever . . . .

Cheers

DSC_0535 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Until i show you some final photos after the alignment and fitment of the new suspension components, here's a small, but not cheap side projects i have been working on.

DSC_0501 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Any ideas ?

I bought this expensive bad boy. It is suitable for M5, M6, M8 and M10 rivnuts. I always wanted this, and instead of going to body shops, have one just for me. This gives you the ability to go oem fitment on all custom mounted parts, so it's just what i wanted.

Also acquired some cobalt drill bits all the way to 13mm. Cant go wrong with quality tools i guess.

DSC_0557 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0559 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

First job i tried it on, was the rear fire extinguisher mount.

DSC_0538 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

It was installed with self-tapping screws, which due to vibrations, at some point, fail.

DSC_0549 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Drilled the holes to 8mm

DSC_0567 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0570 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Ah, better

DSC_0579 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Now, for the fitment photos, after the suspension has settled. Car feels amazing, mush stiffer but in a good way, not here and there, more like in one place. Sharper, and precise

Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Without doing anything to the front ride height from the suspension settings, look how much higher it sat from the changes of components....

After 3,5 year of owning the car from new, and 55k kms, my floormates were looking tired. Not bad for a daily.

Took the car on yet another roadtrip to central Greece

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then I did a mod i saw on Youtube from Obsessed garage. He gave me the idea, how to eliminate this thing that happens at gas stations

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

So this is before

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Remove the whole assembly

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Remove this, which looks like a . . . . . you know

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

This is all we are gonna need

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Ah much better

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Nov-1 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Now if it falls, it falls down. Not on my fender.

Now, I am sure some guy at a petrol station will open it, and leave it on the top of the car, that is why, i am always there, you know just in case.

Been looking for a short shifter for this car for quite a long time, however never pointed me in the right direction. Either nobody knew, or nobody cared I guess. However searching over at briskoda forum, i was almost sure i found one, and after talking with the company , they assured me it would fit, so i gave it a go. Even if it didnt the price was worth it for a shot.

Then I found an old adapter housing i had for the water hoses, that i had used in the golf.

Bought all new clamps, and oem hoses to see if it would fit without removing the ones from the car

Nov-2 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Nov-2 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

It worked great, but the blue theme, just didnt work for me anymore.

So, I could paint it black, or silver, or i could do something even harder. Make a copy out of scratch aluminum.

This piece, will become our final product

There we go

Test fitted the sensor

Nov-2 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

All great

Nov-2 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Now all i have to do is install them , both the exhaust temp and water temp and we will be good to go

And last but not least, another project . . . .

Remember my TTs steering wheel ? Removed it

Also, used my Golf a bit more

Nov-2 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Dont worry, i didnt go back to this steering wheel for no reason. I sent mine off to UK, to get some Alcantara, and Carbon fiber treatment. Super excited. Cant wait to show you guys results :)

Spent some time at the exhaust shop, removing my downpipe, and welding the exhaust temp sensor adapter, from Defi.

DSC_0767 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Out of focus pics for the win

DSC_0775 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then i cut the radiator hose, drained the fluids, and inserted the adapter for the water temp sensor. Went for simple clamps, because they fitter better in situ compared to the heavu duty ones. Filled with G13 again, and Happy to report, no leaks.

DSC_0766 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then it was matter of connecting the sensors with the Defi main unit under the steering wheel. The route through the firewall was known from the installation of the previous gauges, so again, removal of tray stuff

DSC_0779 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0797 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

My main goal was for the wiring to be visible, but oem+ fitment.

I think it came out great

DSC_0788 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0790 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

DSC_0802 by mgpdoc, on Flickr

And there they are, the water temp and exhaust gas temp readings on my 1.6 tdi, making 160hp at the dyno.

Excuse the iphone pics, but i was excited.

Cheers guys , more things on the way, stay tuned.

Another thing that was on my list, was to upgrade all of the interior switche to the Q3 / A1 facelift model. I had been postponing this mode due to the fact that i would have to not only purchase them all from the dealership to begin with, but also, to change their colour afterwards to match the white new interior lighting theme. I didnt want to go for cheap ebay china replicas.

However, i thought that i could purchase them, and then just change the caps, and keep the electronic parts as spares. And i was right.

Photos are always better than talking so. . . .

Parts were bought

Some G13 to replace the one i spent for the water sensor.
