R32 or GTi MKV
So what do you think would make the best everyday car . I'm still bored with the Audi. There is a 2007 R32 forsale near me at a VW stealer for £14995 and they have had it for 2 months. I know it isn't going to be as cheap as a TDi to run but its got to be more fun. The other option is a GTi as I love the retro look of the interior and its going to be cheaper to run. BUT its not going to make the noise that a R32 does !

Could you find an ED30 and have something that meets in the middle?

My Dad had a look at both and prefered the GTi Ed30. The R32 he said wasent worth the extra few grand.

Given the choice I would go for a MKV GTI (if you can find a Ed30 then even better) The R32 is not really worth it (but still sounds awesome though)

What about getting a TDI chipped/remapped with a ss exhaust system, would sound great, go like a train, and still get very good MPG. Problem sorted, it's trying to find a TDI with the right miles on the clock, they all seem to be used as learner cars/sales reps, with alot of motorway miles. I had the GTi, after the MK3 VR6, loved it, pulled very well, loved the noise of the turbo spooling up, looked into getting it chipped, but would love the MK4 R32, look alot better IMHO, alot sportier/brutish. Good luck with the find

The 32 is more of a cruiser but with a re-map and exhaust it brings it alive! They sound awesome with an exhaust!
The GTi if im honest and no offence to anyone who has one looks crap and should never of had a Gti badge put on it! all the crappy bloody plastic trim on it is disgusting. The ED30 looks much better and with a re-map, exhaust, intake can be a real weapon! |

Have you considered remapping the TDI? I would give that a go first off mate, I can guarantee that after one of AMD's maps you will not be bored anymore!!! Last edited by dubnut71; 31-01-2009 at 09:50 AM. Reason: I was still asleep! |

Not a fan of the Mk5 32 but having owned a mk4 version it sounds awesome. Unfortunately in both models the ride is compromised as it is so darn heavy with the V6 and four wheel drive.
The GTi and 32 are evenly paced up to about a ton I would say but the GTi has better handling. It is also easier to increase the power. You may find a Ed30 for that sort of money which have the bigger Ko4 turbo and are up on power by about 15% in standard form. A map will get it up to 300bhp quite easily and then you are in a different ball park. To get that out of a 32 you will need to add in a zorst, manifold and high flow cats which gets very expensive. If you can't find an Ed30 then the new Leon Cupra is the same engine but a lot less money.
