I used to help do MOT's ( I dont have a license) and some of the things that I've seen come in are a joke and make you wonder

a) how the owner can let a car get like that
b) how there alive

I've just put my car through its first MOT, and not having been near one for
nearly 4 years, I was a tad surprised by the total lack of any information or
feedback! You used to get a checklist showing things like your brake pad wear
and a printout of the emissions test. No more!

Dealing with cars seems to be going the same way as computers, where the
user is being pushed further and further away from the knowledge of how and
why things work. I suppose that for the majority of people, the PPM details of
the exhaust will mean absolutely nothing, but for me, being interested in keeping
the mechanics of the machine as tidy as the paint job, I'm feeling totally bereft.

ive got to say if theres one thing that winds me up as a tester is if i drive the car in and its got about 3 bulbs out and the screenwash isnt working . i mean 1 bulb yeah , screenwash it happens but multiple bulbs etc is just lazy !

i once got a fail and a pass for having an air freshner hanging off my rear view mirror lol

that's down to the tester and equipment used.
nearly all emission machines do two copy's one for the garage and one for the customer.
the newer brake testers also give you a print out of the figures.

brake ware will be down to the that has chose to do that.

anything that will need doing in the near future should be noted on an advisory sheet but its down to the tester what he wants to put on there.

Our tester is a swine for that kind of thing. At his previous job he took great joy in failing as many cars as possible with stupidly placed satnav's

At another place I worked at the tester gave the customer the option of removing all of the "I've been to Butlins" kind of stickers from his windscreen before he failed it for them obstructing the drivers view. Technically he should have just failed it but believe it or not some testers do have hearts

Tbh i cant even see the point of removing satnavs etc , they will just go back on after . Its dirty cars as well i don't like i mean inside

had a ford focus come into test once could not see the back seats was so many old newspapers and takeaway packets nearly up to the window level.
the guy was not best pleased when i issued him a refusal to test certificate guy was adamant when he dropped it off it would pass no problem.

also had an omega come in both front foot wells was covered in fag ash and fag buts the inside of the windows was yellow with nicotine stains that i also refused to test the guy couldn't understand why i wouldn't test it and even called up VOSA.
