Deanvtec - Audi A4 Quattro Correctional Detail
After having a full respray I was asked to detail this lovely Audi A4 3.0 Quattro.
The owner was expecting the car to come back with some light defects and he wasn't wrong. The paintwork had the usual bodyshop holograms, marring, light swirls and for added effect they left some lovely sanding marks and some pigtailing, some of it though was under the clearcoat. The engine was detailed a few days prior.. ![]() ![]() The engine was cleaned using various brushes and some apc.. ![]() ![]() The engine was then dried using chemical guys drying machine.. ![]() Engine then dressed with 303 protectant.. ![]() Leaving this.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now onto the wash stage in near freezing weather only a few before pics.. ![]() ![]() Wheels cleaned first using Carlacks mag wheel cleaner, the car then had a citrus degreaser applied to the lower half of the body work, rinsed then snow foamed, all panel gaps, grill etc agitated with envy detailing brushes. Paintwork then washed using an old favorite of mine Carlacks shampoo.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dried carefully using Uber plush drying towels.. ![]() This then revealed some of the defects.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Got the car into the unit ready for claying as it was soo cold out, used yellow polyclay and chem guys luber clay lube.. ![]() Claying removed hardly any contamination then used the drying machine to remove all excess water from all trim and wheels etc.. ![]() Went round the car taking paint measurements which ranged from 120um to around 250um, Inspected the car under the lights and using a brinkmann and led torch. For the correctional work I used a few different pads and polishes, some of the defects were being removed after a few passes using a hex-logic polising pad a little bit of fast-cut mixed with a bit of extra-fine, other panels and defects needed a bit more cut so switched to a menz polishing pad and either 3m extra fine or menz intensive, this gave the required results. With it being new paint I didn't want to go to a heavy cutting pad so a few passes of the above gave the best results safely always monitoring clearcoat removal. I finished down using menz 85ff on a megs soft finishing pad. Before.. ![]() After.. ![]() As the sun was out, I pulled the car outside to check the correction before refining fully in the sun, The front top half of the door and the wing are done in this pic.. ![]() Now back in the unit to crack on with correction work.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The boot area took a few passes to get right.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some nice blue metallic flake in the paintwork.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not forgetting to correct the old light lenses.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thats 14 hours of day 1 now complete and at 10.30pm at night I need some diner and sleep. Day 2 A few little bits of polishing to finish.. ![]() ![]() After a Menz Top inspection wipe-down to remove all oils etc, A quick check outside in the sun.. ![]() ![]() Happy with the correctional work, now onto the wheels which were sealed with poorboys wheel sealant and then topped with collinite 476s and tyres dressed with Chem guys new look tyre gel.. ![]() Paintwork then cleansed further and base laid down using Zaino AIO.. ![]() Whilst this cured I made up just under an ounce of Zfx'd Zaino Z2.. ![]() Buffed the AIO and applied the first coat of Z2.. ![]() Z2 took about 40mins to cure, after this I buffed away the residue and gave the paintwork a Z6 wipe-down. I applied the second coat and while this cured I polished the very tired looking remus exhausts.. ![]() ![]() Using autosol and the great Britemax duo and a little bit of wirewool for the insides only they came up great.. ![]() ![]() Windows were cleaned and sealed using the Car-lack twins, Interior hoovered and dusted.. ![]() After removing the second coat of Z2 and giving the car a Z6 wipe-down again I applied the third and final coat of Z2 this left this much Zaino Z2 after 3 coats, Just goes to show how far such a small amount of this product goes.. ![]() After around 45mins again I removed it and followed this up with Z6 and then gave the paintwork a Z8 Grand final wipedown.. ![]() This then left the following completed car.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Picture I took in chrome.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for taking a look, all comments and questions more than welcome. |
