swaps Pre-Wash TFR: Foam Vs No-Foam

After doing a lot of reading and searching on the forums, I thought something like this was missing and a thread like this would be useful... I.E. A thread that actual compares (pro's and con's) of the two pre-wash types rather than the actual products. Why? Because nearly every thread on here is this product or that product etc but lets strip this down to the very basics, forgetting about the name of the product or the supplier and concentrate solely on the two method types of pre-wash. Foam Vs Non-Foam.

Not everyone has tried both methods and furthermore nobody has tried all the products available on the market; but when it comes to a thread like X Product v's Y Product .. We still seem give our opinion even if we have only tried 1 product out of the two with no actual fair judgement. However, most of us have tried at least one of the methods so together lets create a fair judged pro's and con's of both methods.

Do both types / methods actual provide the same benefits? Applying a pre-wash non-foaming type via a pump sprayer is older and trusted method, so why was Snow foam invented to provide the same benefits? Is it a fad and a re-invention of the wheel, or is it actual a more effective and efficient type / method of pre-washing. Interestingly some of foaming type products can be used via both a pump sprayer and foam lance, however curiosity asks if both methods were applied as a test which one would actual be the better pre-wash method.

Reply with what you have used, what you think and what you have learned from your own personal experience. Provide your pro's and con's and it'll be added to the list may it be appropriate.

TFR = Traffic Film Remover
So, your pre-wash may it be the non-foam type (Citrus Pre Washes) or the foam type (Snowfoam) it's known as a TFR (Traffic Film Remover)
  • Foaming And Non-Foaming Types
  • Primarily method used before the shampoo.
  • Used through pressure washer foam gun/foam lance or hand pump pressure spray bottles.
  • Range from high alkalinity strength to pH neutral products
  • Used to clean heavy dirt and grime + Remove bugs etc
  • Helps to soften dirt and grime for easy removal before shampoo and minimise swirl marks.
__

(Types below based on foam generated non on pH)

Type 1 - Non-Foam
  • Pros
  • Set-up time
  • Creates less mess
  • Cost: Cheaper Approach as don't need foam lance
  • Cons
  • Takes that bit longer to apply / spray the whole car
  • ?
Type 2 - Foam / Snowfoam
  • Pros
  • The process of spraying foam is slightly quicker
  • Fun Aspect
  • Cons
  • Potentiality creates a lot of mess
  • Time: Longer set-up due to requiring pressure washer etc
  • Time: Dwell tiime
  • Cost: Expensive

non foam.
never used foam because.... A. Expense and B. time.

PS. How can a pro of foam be faster aplication when a non foam prewash will be ready to wash off by the time you get your foam equip. ready?

With regard to Time: Longer set-up due to requiring pressure washer etc

I still use the PW to rinse non foam pre wash off so no gain there for me. If I have to choose one or the other it will be non foam as I find a quality pre wash is better than foam, but I like a layer of foam on the car before TBM.

I use PW too but my point was that I get the prewash out spray around then get the PW out and wash off straight away.

Not sure whether it's right but I've heard of people leaving snowfoam for 15 mins to dwell... I'd of finished most of the car by then lol

Bilt Hamber Auto-foam: it's fast and very effecive even to TRF and it's waxsafe up to 8% dilution.

I'm with you...

Tho, with faster application I kind of meant the applying the foam part despite it's longer setup time. But I guess it's not that much faster.
