Bear Grylls 'Mission Everest'
Anyone see that programme on CH4 last night about Bear Grylls and his mate flying over Everest?
Seriously impressive stuff and he's got some balls to attempt that considering all the problems they had in the lead up to it and the countless things that could easily go wrong and end up in certain death. Also raised over £2.2m for childrens charities through sponsorship etc. so hats off to him I say. One brave dude!! If you missed it, it's well worth seeking out on the web or it might be repeated on 'more 4'? |

Cant stand the fella myself.
Just so much guff and nonesense. All dramatics and action for the camera. Trust me, if it wasnt 110% safe he wouldnt even be drinking a cup of coffee if it was 1 degree too hot, never mind flyng over Everest. The H&S assessment simply wouldnt allow it and that means his (and the production company) insurance would be null and void. He wouldnt be able to cross the road on camera without a H&S assessment and public liability (and personal) insurance. Ray Mears on the other hand... Now theres a bloke who knows about the outdoors. I could watch that bloke all day. |

Just interested, I didn't think it was a particularly great show either but that was a decision based on the content. |

I don't like him TBH, IMO he is pretencious and annoying. But can't knock him if he's raising all that money for charity.

Some of the things he's done though, breaking his back in a parachute accident then going on to be the youngest person up Everest takes some doing.
Although didnt him and Ray Mears both get caught out staying in 5 star hotels whilst they were supposed to be roughing it in the great outdoors

Ray Mears is a fraud!!! he knows his stuff, but doesn't exactly rough it! A mate of mine served with Bear in the army and says he is the real deal, although as with most things a fair amount of stuff is modified for camera.
Very impressed with the everest attempt though, although I will stick to metal wings I think!!! |

Ray Mears didnt But then again, Mr Grills isnt trying to show you how to live or survive outdoors. He's in the 'entertainment' business and makes 'entertaining' programmes. Ray Mears programmes are listed as 'factual' programming. |

At the end of the day (hate that phrase
) of course some of the programme was creatively edited to make it more watchable - as is all TV.To those who have dismissed what they did though is bit out of order - It's easy to criticise sat in front of a PC, but I'd like to see them fly up to over 25,000 ft (when the altimeter stopped working, so was much higher) in -40 degrees. The huge amount raised for charity alone makes the entire thing worthwhile imo. |
