Leather cleaning

I've read that a lot of the pro's use the products from LTT when cleaning leather interiors and it's a product range i've fancied trying myself as the help and advice given by Judy B on her posts has always appeared very informed.

After collecting a few bits together for a weekend detail, one of the things on my requested "to sort" list was the removal of blue denim die transfer that had appeared on cream leather seats.

It was time for some research and a call to LTT

I'd spoke to Judy on the phone a week earlier about the products they offer and my chances of success, I had mentally ticked this box, but had then managed to leave the purchase from LTT till the last minute what with rushing around collecting lots of other little bits.

A phone call about next day delivery actually resulted in a quick trip to LTT (they were 14 miles from the office) to meet Judy and team and saw me collect a full car kit (cleaner, maintain, protector and some foams and cloths in a nice little red bag all with instructions).

I got to have a good chat with Judy who confirmed, as per the earlier phone call, that die transfer is not something that the cleaner product is designed to remove. This was a physical alteration rather than a surface contaminent, however it might work if the die hadn't been on too long and also that the protectant would do a good job of resisting further transfer damaging the leather surface.

A quick test on the wife's BMW confirmed the cleaning power of the foam cleaner and the natural finish left by the protectant. So it was onto the detail

No really good pictures of this process but bear with me.

In the following pic you can just make out the drivers seat bolster is showing signs of blueing compared with the passenger seat.

I tested a small section where it wouldn't be seen to ensure the leather was coated and not a pureuntreated leather. This confirmed the coated nature so I started to work with the foam cleaner using the supplied sponge and although the following picture is a bit grainy a bit of work really transformed the leather and completely removed the die transfer (you can also see the blue tinge to the quilted section edges in this pic)

Wow, obviously really pleased me, TJ and Bigpikle Damon. So i carried on to do the whole seat.

I buffed off the foam residue from the leather to remove the muck (the foam holds the removed muck) with some white paper hand towel.

Next up was to add the protectant (spray light and wipe) as the die transfer will more likely reappear over time

I also repeated the process on the passenger seat, centre tunnel and all the leather in the interior (there is quite a lot and it came from very nice cows).

Job done and a happy bunch we were

Thanks to Judy for the help (and offer of phone support incase of technical questions).

Great products, I've just got to finish the wife's car interior now, but have some other things to try out in there too, so no hardship.

It's a really nice & very expensive car also ... a Bugatti Veyron by any chance ?

You do't get much more expensive than one of those. Would love to know who the client was.

I'm in need of a leather cleaner and posted a question only last week, so that swings it. I'll give LTT a try.

Stu.

Agreed but you should feel the quality of the carpet, alcantara and leather mmmmmmm

The research into cleaning the Alcantara turned up some fairly abrupt instructions from the manufacturer, it worked OK but im hoping to find a better resolve that's manufacturer approved, even if i start sending them stuff myself.

I vacuumed the carpet and mats which removed the majority of marks after these pics but didn't wet vac due to our time and the owners potential intention to use it that night

That's why i found your post on die transfer funny the other day, as you know mate it was on my research list.

It was a very interesting day, knowing the importance of using manufacturer approved best practice for each element. I've been busy working on elements for the next few as well

Agree with the comments above this is a really good kit

Removed the shiney effect from my seats and with the protector on they are staying matt

The kit also comes with a cleaner and protector in one for regular maintenance
