my 944 turbo restore
Porsche 944 2.5 8v Turbo
My dad owned the 944 turbo since i was a young lad LoL and he gave me the chance that if i restore the car, i can have it. Its been off the road for a while. first plan was to get new alloys and tyres on it so i can get a check on the car at my local garage. According to wikipedia, the engine is 220bhp Got the rear jacked up, the alloys off, and had a check round the car to see if anything thats really bad on the body. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All alloys off!! look how bad the tyres are ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() spent an hour cleaning one and still aint much improvement. went to tyre place and get all the tyres off. then traveled to a refurb place thats been recommended by the porscheclub. Alloys were sent off for a refurb and new tyres on. came to £680 Purchased a Porter Cable off ebay. and ordered nearly all the stuff i need for it: ![]() at this point in time the car ran running rich and idling wrong.after waiting a couple of weeks, got a phone call saying my alloys are ready to come pic up. got there, guy was saying how nice they were. he asked me "whats up?" "there not white" They looked amazing compared to how bad they were. ![]() So hes sending them back again. got to wait even longer now ![]() a week later, alloys arrived all white ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and at the same time I got my porter cable ![]() i ordered some wheel nuts for the car. the nuts for 16 came to £85 ![]() ![]() Got the wheels on and thought that i would clean the car. this is how i started: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and look how different the arches look now well impressed![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the front arches need a better cleaner because its plastic. depending on the price, i might just buy new ones This was the 3rd wash of the day ![]() ![]() and it went back into the garage to start masking up the plastic and rubbers so i can start using the porter cable. been using the porter cable on my bonnet when i have spare time. just look at the difference between these two pics. Ive used 84# Megs and then 80# Megs clean it up. Got another stage to go yet but couldnt believe how its looking. Before ![]() After ![]() Got bored one night so started to fix some of the problems on the porsche. First job was to remove the cassette player. that took away and some force to get out. Next job was to fix 2 switches that was pushed in too far. then i took part of the centre console out that holds cassettes because it was broken. Here is some pics of it so far: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i purchased another interior for the car. I started to clean up the doorcards. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Plus pics of the car: quite abit of stages. Over all Ive: Cleaned the car 3 times on the first day Meguiars 84# with porter cable Meguiars 80# with porter cable Meguiars Show Car Glaze with porter cable and last thing ive done is put a coat of ***** ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well i got bored again so i did some work on the porsche. Took out both front seats, took off one door card. would of took the other one off but some stuff in the way to get to the last few bolts. Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() Found so much junk under the seats. Found an old tax disc and it cost £160 for 12 months. now its nearly £200. ![]() ![]() dragged the porsche out for an extreme carpet clean ![]() Used autoglym interior shampoo (glad i got the trade bulk), autoglym microfibre pad, a normal vac, and a water vac. First started off using the vac to get all the small dirty bits. moved on to using the autoglym interior shampoo and microfibre pad. Let that dry because i needed a break. Moved on to the water vac and used interior shampoo on the more harder dirt parts. Before: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thats its so far. Ive left the project in the garage for a few months and soon will be making a big effort to get it on the road in the next month. Really looking forward to getting it back on the road ![]() Cheers for reading and hope you will comment any tips are more than welcome
