If you're ever concerned about causing damage you can offset that by using gentler polishes and pads and less pressure.

My first thought, given everything you've done, is that you probably actually need a more aggressive polish to finish with because it's BMW paint. Scholl S17 or S20 black on that green hex logic pad...

I did a C63S in Mercedes matte paint (Magno) and used Optimum Opti-Seal as a drying aid and LSP, it gave a great finish without adding gloss:

I'm looking at Shinemate polishers after Sandro's reviews on car craft auto care; I'm not quite willing to splash out Flex money on it yet.

Also, buy some new pads and maybe get some Scholl S20...
