An Interview with Race Valeting

Dodo Juice Authorised Detailer
Detailing in Waterlooville, Detailing In portsmouth, Detailing in Hampshire, Paint correction Hampshire, Swirl mark removal Hampshire, Valeting Portsmouth Dodo juice authorised detailer professional detailer in hampshire south england detailer

Can you start by telling us a little about yourself?

My names Paul Harrison im 24, and engaged to the future Mrs Harrison hopefully in 2010.

I have a little girl called Alexis who's 2 yrs.

What else can I tell you about me?

I was born in S****horpe (Ok no jokes ) and moved out to Oslo Norway when I was 18 mths due to my Dad working on the oil rigs.

Then moved back to the UK when I was around 3, moved down to the New Forrest when I was 9 and then over Portsmouth area (Hayling Island) when I was 11 where I went to Hayling Secondary Modern and gained 9 G.C.S.E's.

I then started at colleage doing GNVQ Adv business studies, but gave up as I wanted to start earning money to buy my bikes,cars.....

I then worked as a forklift driver for a haulage company for a few years and also worked in a warehouse and gained 3 different licences Order picker, counter picker, bendi.

How did you ‘get into’ detailing?

I have aways been an 'OCD' ever from a young age always cleaning my parents cars, remember back to when I was little and my dad had a white 5 series alpina and cleaning that with him.

Then when I got my first car I first discovered waxes and has then spiralled from there starting off with my Valeting Business back in early 2006 then ending up doing High end Detailing & Paint Correction.

How long have you been detailing at ‘this’ level?

I have been detailing to this level for 18 mths now, but have been using waxes since I was 17.

How did you learn to machine polish?

I got shown how to use the Porter cable by Alex L back a couple of years ago and from there I have taught myself how to use the Makita (Rotary) a very big learning curve with many hrs practising on scrap panels.

How many cars have detailed over the years?

Its very hard to say but got to be 100+

Tell me about your first detail

My first ever PAID Paint Correction Detail was a milano red Honda CTR back in early 2007 which I feel went very well and the owner was chuffed to bits, he couldn't believe it was the same car when he picked it up.

What do you drive and how often is it detailed?
I drive the Vivaro my detailing van, I try to give it a good clean once a week and a detail every months or so keeping it topped up with protection.

At the end of the day the van is my advert and it will portray a bad image if its not looking its best all the time.

What is your favourite car to detail and why?

So far my favourite car to detail has to be the Porsche 911, Always been one of my favourate cars because of the lovely shape and sporty lines and the sound.

Do you prefer to detail a Supercar or everyday car?

I'd prefer to detail Supercar day in day out because noramally I'm just stuck with the everyday cars.

What piece of detailing kit do you think every detailer should have in their arsenal? (excluding the obvious stuff like wash mitts etc.)
Blimey this list could be endless right he goes....

PTG (A must)
Menzerna IP & FF
3M Polishes (FC+ & ULTRAFINA SE)
Porter Cable mainly for applying sealants, paint cleansers and for doing the plastics.
Good selection of brushes (EZ DETAIL WHEELS)
Good selection of cloths/drying towels

What are your current favourite brands and why?

Some of my favourite brands of late are 3M these polishes/pads seem to be great on most paint types and don't seem to be effected by weather neither.

I love the Meguairs range of pads especially the polishing/finishing pads and also the megs 80/83 a very underestimated polish.

Im also a BIG BIG fan of Dodo Juice for there great range of waxes, they're so easy to use and give great durability and finish,
I'm also a big fan of Swissvax waxes too and the New Zaino range of sealants but are very weather/temperature dependant.

What do you do when you’re not detailing?

When I'm not working I like spending time with the family, Motor racing and watching football.

A few quick fire questions
Ferrari or Lambo ? Lambo
Wax or Sealent ? Wax
Fish and chips or bangers and mash ? Fish & Chips
McDonald's or Burger King? Burger King
Coffee or Tea? Coffee
