Newbie from Portsmouth

Hi all,

Have been into cleaning my cars from day 1 but with little respect to most of the techniques on here - one bucket wash, dry, polish - simple. Always kept my cars cleans but swirls and wax were a mystery until about 4 years back.

I was commuting over 4 hours a day and had a terrible car which continually broke down (BMW Compact). I've always had cars I liked and cared about up until I started this commute. To try and bring some joy to my life I bought a second/weekend car - E36 BMW M3 EVO (my teenage poster car). This was when car cleaning got a little more serious - not to the level on here but still a greater consideration for the arts. At this time one of my best mates father bought 2 Porsches - this kicked him into full detail mode - waxes at a price I couldn't believe, Rupes DAs - winning awards at shows type stuff. I piggy backed on this and learnt different methods in order to keep the M3 looking good - I ended up cleaning it more than I drove it.

Then I found work closer to home - ended up getting rid of my terrible old Pistachio Green BMW Compact for an E90 330i manual as a daily driver. After another year or so we had our first child - free time went out the window and so too did the M3 - the other half banned our child from going in it. After a few months of clinging on to it - giving it the full clean whenever I was able but not driving it I realised it was time to move on. So I managed to find an unsensible (but approved by the other half as child friendly) BMW AC Schnitzer Touring (ACS3). 2003 - 62k miles - supercharged touring. First black car but atleast baby can come with when we do head out.

So long story and now to the point. As said I have learnt some techniques, effectively the basics - but am now looking to go a little deeper. The Touring's paint isn't that good - swirls, road rash and more. With baby now in tow money is slightly tighter than it was so I'm on a slight budget and have spent the last few weeks stumbling through reviews to work out what is best in terms of products and tools. This led me to this site and that's why I've signed up.

I recently purchased quite a lot of Auto Finesse products as well as a snow foam lance, I used their Tripple Polish and thought it was good quality and a fair price . And by luck got a £15 voucher from Ebay and bought a cheapy DA made by Clover Engineering 8mm throw - looks ok for the stage I am at.

So effectively the real journey begins and I wanted to say hi and thanks for all the advise I have read from this site already and have no doubt ill be asking more questions from you all as I progress.

Ill also try and figure out how to post pictures when I have more time...

Portsmouth, you lucky sod, liked it a lot when I was at the FOS in 2016. Seemed like even old cars were in great condition, little salt on the roads probably. If I buy second hand I'll be getting the train down, the only place I've seen a Panda 100hp without significant suspension corrosion. OCD is fun - enjoy.
