I sort of understand each manufacturer going their own way but are we looking at VHS & Betamax version 2?

Downright daft as far as I can see. Just have an industry standard.

These current BMW's look utterly abysmal. I can't understand how anyone can look at the front of these and think they look good, let along appealing?

That's a big improvement over recent releases.
It all depends on how it carries its weight and subsequent handling but it will probably be good.
Just can't get past that snout. Its slightly less in yer face than the recent 3 series but still too much, especially on an electric - why?.
