Personal Registration Query

I was curious to know if the registration number of my dad's first car back in the 60s was available. It was a distinctive number and, assuming it wasn't mega expensive, I might have been tempted to purchase it but searches for it have resulted in a blank. The gov.uk vehicle check page says it doesn't exist so nobody else must have it and a search on gov.uk's personal registrations page doesn't show it as being available. Anyone know if certain old numbers are just archived and never made available?

I've made contact recently with DVLA about an old number my dad had. Basically, unless they're advised that the car has been scrapped, technically the number is still in circulation, so that can't sell it to you.

Before GDPR you may have had a chance tracking it down, but it's infinitely more difficult nowadays with the multitude of rules protecting personal information.

Cheers.

Once a car is scrapped it is usual for the registration number to die with it.

Have you tried a site like this - https://www.freecarcheck.co.uk/guide...-number-plate/

or - https://www.carveto.co.uk/blog/owner-by-reg/

one more - https://www.caranalytics.co.uk/guide...ber-in-the-uk/

None of those sites can find the number - either state it is not in the correct format or the number is not valid. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
