My winter wheel care and cleaning

My most satisfying job in the summer is cleaning my rims but when it's bitterly cold i find it hard on my hands.

The washing is not too bad.

Prewash spray then rinse.

I wear a thin wooly glove then a rubber glove ontop.
MF mitt in one hand and a 2 litre pump sprayer with shampoo in in the other providing a constant stream of clean shampoo.

Clean the wheel barrels and calipers first with my barrel mitt.
Then the tyres with my tyre mitt.
Go round again for wheel faces with my wheel face mitt.

Jet rinse.

Quick leaf blower session to get almost dry but now its winter and my time is short I can't wait for perfectly dry surfaces.
So a quick wipe with Optimum Optiseal with no buffing.
Then a quick wipe with a water based tyre dressing namely Autoglym Instant tyre dressing.
In summer I prefer the finish Of Megs Endurance but i think that needs a dryer surface before application.

Job done

Hoping to replace Optiseal with TW Dry and Shine next week.

Loving the wheels and it's a really good wash regime.

I too find winter a real bind especially with intricate wheels as on my wifes car, so typically I am cutting down on the wash frequency to every three to four weeks sadly,,, this is good stuff I am off shopping for gloves

Ever thought about buying some wheel woolies? I am a recent convert.. seem like they'll last forever though and give a much more thorough, convenient clean than reaching in with a mitt.

With added protection over the winter a coin op wand may help in-between, having just had my wheels powdercoated having waxed them wheels off 3tines a year time for some ceramic.

With winter coming keeping salt off them will be key.
