KRS is nice they compare with Focal Polyglass from about 15 years ago.

I'd recommend listening to a set of Rainbows if possible they really offer a warm rich sound and in my opinion is rounder than Hertz and I like Hertz a lot.

Which period Alpine do you have as am looking for a big barge from the early 2000's to fill with a load of the premium gear I collected from back then.

The interesting thing was, some said the focals didn't have a warm sound, but the more expensive focals sounded like hertz speakers, imho a bit better too, but I think they were like 450 (same price as the audison iirc) as opposed to the hertz at around 300.

When you start getting in to serious money the location and sound deadening play a massive effect as do cables and power. I noticed mine with Focal Utopia going from Polyglass, I was set on buying JL W6 comps but heard the Utopias in a friends car and just had to have them.

The sound is only as good as its weakest link and that weakest link gets more expensive the more you chase it.

Also the music you play does have a massive effect Focals were very harsh on the soft soothing sound of Enya but out this world with Trance and heavy rock. Rainbow lacked the razor sharp edge that made the Focal so good with trance but a softer more rounded sound was much easier with easy listening and blues.

Thanks guys, I think tho I'm already going too far with the hertz and focal
Was merely looking for an ok quality upgrade for weekend driving, again why I was looking at the more mainstream components.
Just beet told that pioneer ts are a good pair at under £100.
Loud and proud I'm not sure what a barge one is but I bought a cde 7873r, older one but still has rear aux in and remote.
Plus a newer 9880r, not sure which I'll use yet tho

Alpine are still produce some of the best head units IMO but their speakers have never really been up to scratch.
Hertz do some decent cheaper speakers as well, I am sure the £100 range would be much better than the pioneer ones which have never been that great.

What about JL Audio. I used to be a big fan of their kit back in the day but been so long that I did any ICE stuff...does BBG still even import it from the USA??

A good few years ago I had a full planet audio set up in my civic with an audio control epicentre and thought the quality was excellent.

If you don't mind 2nd hand gear, have a look through the classifieds on the talkaudio forum. Some quality items appear on there

Also something to note is what one person may think is good might not actually be the case.

People have varying standards and expectations with different hearing as a bonus.
