Question Double Din HU Recommendations- Pumpkin?

Thinking about getting a double din HU, budget £200/£250.

Quite fancy this http://www.pioneer-car.eu/uk/products/avh-280bt

I have the 8300BT single din in the ATR and like it, although that has an SD slot which i would prefer over CD/DVD. I guess if a unit plays DVD though i can record mp3's onto the DVD?

Has anyone got a Pumpkin? http://www.autopumpkin.co.uk/2-din-car-stereo.html Seem to get a lot of features for the money. That said, i have an iphone, so i'm not sure how much of it will be wasted being Andriod based.

Not fussed about the radio, as i don't listen to it.

Any suggestions welcome.

I have a Pioneeer X3600 and it's been spot on, if this is as good I'd go for it

I have a GM specific Pumkin unit and although a pain to fit, it's a cracking unit, loads of functions and being android based, the app list is endless, some paid, but many are free to install and use

I should have updated this. Went for the Pumpkin in the end, its a lot of head unit for the price! External GPS, microphone etc. Also an SD slot for loads of my awful music.

Was a bit of a pain to install, but no more than any other double din i should imagine. I'l be doing a thread on my car when i get round to polishing it and a couple of other bits, but meanwhile here it is fitted...

Had a look at the pumpkin head units and they look like a decent bit of kit. How are you finding the interaction between it and the iPhone?

Really good. Phone calls work fine and it even imported the phonebook from the iphone, which i was surprised about.

Tethered with the phone as a hotspot without problem, although i need to try and get a wifi connection to download offline google maps etc. but can't quite get near enough to the house.

I had the same at home with the wifi, didn't quite reach the car for downloads / updates. I brought a range extender and connected the car to that, works excelent, I can even connect to the home network and download music direct to the device

I've got a mains plug in extender and I've though about putting that on an extension lead and drag it out nearer to the car.

Failing that, my lad has unlimited data on his phone, so i'll tether with him. lol.

I might invest in one of them for mine!

Did you have any issues with steering wheel controlls? Did you need any extra looms?
