Matte leather

Hi everyone,

I have a 2015 Audi S3 and have always had bother finding a good leather cleaner which leaves the seats with a flat matte finish.

I know it is possible to achieve a matte finish - before protecting them with Gyeon LeatherShield I used diluted Surfex and they came up a treat. I am concerned that using Surfex for anything more than a deep clean will cause damage.

LeatherShield has not altered that finish, but the seats did turn shiny after a few weeks.

I need a cleaner that will return this matte finish but not remove the coating which I have applied.

I have used Dr Leather Wipes and found these added shine. The closest I've got to a matte finish is by using Gyeon Mild Leather Cleaner (which is the recommended maintenance product for LeatherShield) but before I buy more, any other recommendations?

You’ve answered your own question
If you’ve applied Gyeon Leather Shield, their cleaner would have been developed in conjunction with it.

Personally, I’ve never had a problem with Dr Leather wipes and spray, but if it doesn’t work for you, go with the Gyeon cleaner.

Cheers Tosh. That's what I'm thinking but always good to get other suggestions.. I have used a grand total of 2 leather cleaners in 10 years of detailing so have limited experience!

Dodo juice leather cleaner and their leather sealant would be perfect for what you are after, it’s a fantastic pair of products.

So I was having the same problem as you, then I bought colour locks leather brush and now it all comes up a treat with Dr Leather Spray.

I’ve only used 3! (LTT, Sonax, DrLeather)
Generally, I do a deep clean with a leather brush and foam, then seal the car.
Then I use Dr Leather wipes once a week on the drivers seat and steering wheel, once a month on the rest. Re-seal 2-3 times a year.

I’ll try the brush method (bluechimp), but I think it’ll be abrasive enough to remove the sealant.

WOW can't believe you used surfex on leather, I wouldent even use it for deep cleaning leather

I use citrus pre wash mixed 1:15 for maintaining and 1:10 for deep clean with a leather brush
