Cherry Red 306 Rallye

For those old enough to remember or appreciate the hot hatch era, you'll know what this car is about!

So, I've a beach buggy with a whacking great 2.7 ltr flat 6 in it. Awesome fun in the summer and nothing else I want to drive. Come the late autumn/winter/spring, an open top buggy ain't much fun!!

So, after arguing with the wife and shutting her down (why do you need three cars??......why do you need 20 pairs of shoes and a bag to match??....I win) I eventually found, after 3 months of looking, a very good cherry red 306 Rallye. I'd had a GTi-6 a number of years back after owning a 309 Goodwood, and was properly impressed with it. Decided that the 306 is likely to go the same way as the 205 if you get a good one, so started looking.

Eventually found one, that wasn't strictly for sale but the owner might be tempted to mpart with it, via the 306 GTi/Rallye forum. A jaunt to south Wales and the deal was done.

So, the car. 109k, a known car on the forum, on its 3rd engine after engine 1 died from head gasket failure and engine 2 died from the owner continuing to run it for approx 5 miles with the oil light on........

Got replaced with a GTi-6 lump and the guy I got it from spent time removing the aircon stuff and reverting to the correct Rallye aux belt set up... The car is in great condition. Has had a paint on a couple of panels and the roof is a little pink but other than that, is in great condition. I bought it on the strength of the body. Mechanicals are pretty easy and cheap to fix, body work can be expensive...

A few pics from the day I went to look at it...

A lovely, almost std car. Only mods are its been lowered 40mm, has a stainless exhaust and an open cone filter in place of the airbox......plans are to return it to std spec as much as poss...
