New car

Currently on the hunt for a newer car for the other half.

She has a Vauxhall Corsa at the moment.

£3k to spend, preferably petrol, 5dr low tax.

Any recommendations?

The little Clio with the 1.2 turbo engine is a good little car to drive. They are 100bhp.

You can get the MG3 for a little over £3000. That's for a 2014 car. Not sure how good or bad they are, but they look good and that seems like value.

The Mazda2 has £30 road tax and is a good looking little car.

There's plenty of choice. Use AutoTrader and use their filters.

Just purchased a Corsa myself. (E) VX Line SRi sadly it was more than the 3k you have but if you can find one of the older ones you will have a great car.

We've a 2010 Mazda 2 for the last half a dozen years. Now at over 100K miles.

Superb little motor. Sum total of non routine maintenance items - a brake light switch which cost £10.

An alternative which we've also had in the family is a Toyota Yaris. Another car that ran to over 100K with virtually nothing except routine maintenance.

Good luck with the search.
