Wash/Rinse/Wheels Buckets

Hi Everyone,
Just seeing what buckets people choose to use for the Wash/Rinse/Wheels Preperation? Looking at getting a fresh new set and have seen loads and loads on cleanyourcar, slims etc.. but stuck on which to go for really?

Also, do many people use the grit guards? Are they honestly worth it as ive heard mixed opinions on them. If so, which one?

Slims do a bucket/grit guard combo for £8.95, even if the bucket only lasts say a year then you still have the grit guards. Just replace the bucket with a sturdier one next time if you are that bothered

And Yes to the grit guards! out of interest, what is the mixed things you have heard about them? Its a pretty simple concept and I cant really think of a negative about them

You need a bucket with slightly more volume but that is hardly an issue . . . .

There are two ways of looking at this, either a bucket is a bucket so buy the cheapest you can find or you want dedicated buckets with grit guards that cost more than enough finger lickin chicken for a football team.

Personally I've always used cheap buckets with grit guards, actually 6 quid plasterers buckets which work really well because they are relatively deep which allows you to rinse your mitt without disturbing the crud at the bottom of the bucket too much. However I've never been satisfied with this set up, the buckets have loads of rough edges and the grit guards don't fit very well and often float out of place, so after years of making so I've just taken the plunge and got 3 Chemical Guys buckets from Slims.

It might seem like a waste to some and the cost does make me wince, but at the end of the day they are only a couple of quid more than anything else and they are far, far superior. They are well finished and the material is visibly thicker than any other bucket I've tried, but they are still translucent. They have big CG logos on front and back which are printed on rather than being stickers that are going to peel off after a few weeks and most importantly the grit guards fit perfectly.

So you can save some dosh now or pay more for longer term satisfaction, a bucket should be for life.

No they don't but the adjustable Scratch Shield branded ones fit the 6 quid grey and orange ones sold in B&Q. Nice buckets but a little small for detailing

For anyone questioning the use of grit guards watch https://youtu.be/m4RGoQ6c50w titles are in German but it's simple enough to follow. Not a 100% realistic test due to the size of the particles used, but it does give an interesting indication of the effect the grit guards have on the movement of the water as you are swishing your mitt around in it.

Where grit guards fall down is that they only trap the contaminates that sink to the bottom of the bucket, while some might stay suspended in the water, which there is not a lot you can do about. So while they don't trap all of the particles, they do trap some, which has to be better than none.

Eurocarparts sell meguiars buckets, and since they normally do 20/30% off once a week makes them very affordable
