Rupes bigfoot 3 lhr15 dilemma

Hi all. I've been considering buying a bigfoot3 dlx kit but now I've looked into it properly I've noticed that this kit only comes with 6 inch pads and backing plate.
I currently have a das6 pro (old model) and have only ever used 5 inch and 3 inch pads and backing plates.
So the question is ..... Will I ever need 6 inch pads and plate. I haven't even thought about them or considered buying any until now. Thanks

6 inch pads are fantastic for large, flat panels. Hit curves and they quickly become impractical and unwieldly.

Yeah thanks. Maybe I won't bother with the six inch pads. Would have been a better deal for me if the kit was 5 inch instead. Buying everything individually is gonna be more expensive

I've noticed that the backing plate is 5' so do 5' pads from other manufactures fit ok

This is because the Rupes pads have a cone shaped edge, so 6" face, 5" backing. You could use other 5" pads, but they would need to have a 5" backing (which in my experience is rare). Also, with this set-up you don't have any safety margin when polishing. It can be done, but is limiting in some circumstances.

When I bought my Flex 3401 I got the LC backing plate system and the extra 115mm plate to cover all 4-6" pads. Extra initial outlay, but makes pad options much easier.
