New car prep, Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifolio

Check out this latest video from our friend Larry @ AMMO NYC on this detailed Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifolio. Take a look at why the owner taped up the front end of the car prior to it's detail, does it make sense? I can understand why he did it. The car truly is stunning, sit back and enjoy.

Makes sense if he drove it from dc to Connecticut in winter, much more salt debris and all the rest of it..not the way I'd do it

Altough I do see why you'd want to protect it, I wonder if the tape would actually protect the paint against stone chips or damage that otherwise wouldn't polish out. I hit a stone the other day which took out a huge chunk of my bonnet and window. No tape would've protected against that..

I think if you're that afraid of damaging it and you've spent that kind of money transport it on a trailer..

Amazing car though, wish I'd be able to drive something like that!

Like Ben, when I first saw the tape I thought "what a mess!" I do understand why he did it, and I'd probably have done something similar. However, now I know what can happen to the paint with expansion and contraction , I ain't putting no tape nowhere near it lol. I suppose if it had been a low tack masking tape, it might have been OK.

Great video, and a stunning car.

It was probably the heat from the engine that restricted the paint to expand under the tough tape.

The thing that irks me about that video is someone of Larrys standing giving it the 'I only had 20 minutes to fully machine polish a car ' line. It happens alot on his videos. If you're taking your car to him then you want him to spend some time to get it right. You never hear of KDS, SL restoration or Paul Dalton doing this (sometimes PD, but then you soon know about the 3 16 hour days put in).

Quadrifoglio is actually is it's name and the G is silent Absolute monster of a car and stunning. Alfa's first proper car in a long time.

My next car I reckon, can't afford one new at 59k but 2 years old sounds very possible... Roll on 2019!

I didn’t see any mention of paint measurement either especially for the composite bonnet. Given the condition of the bonnet, the products used and heat build-up to ‘flow the paint’ back I would suggest a fair amount of clearcoat was possibly removed. Larry even said he didn’t want to polish the bonnet further in his commentary.

Whilst I have the upmost respect for Larry it really surprises me that paint thickness readings don’t appear to have been taken and used to gauge safe clearcoat removal.
