However....Somebody much closer only 30 mins away, has one available for £20 that has even offered to meet up somewhere, found via an E39 club on Facebook. He's going to send me a picture of where the back box has been cut off to make sure there's enough length of straight pipe on it so I can use a clamp for the time being. In an ideal world, car will pass MOT this Saturday, I'll get the back box this weekend and get it on. As next weekend, I'm hopefully off to London to go to a surprise party so would be nice to go in the 5 with fresh MOT and a nice quiet ride. As I work all week, and the weather like it is. I just don't think I'll have time or the balls in this weather to get things sorted and have it re-tested (if it fails) in time to make the trip. If not, It'll be a trip in the Bangernomics Focus and BMW will have to wait until I get MOT bits done to get it through. Fingers crossed for me though guys ![]() I did the obligatory VIN Search on the car and this is her factory spec: Vehicle information ======================================== VIN: ************************ Type code: DT62 Model: 530I (EUR) E-F-R series: E39 Series: 5 Type: LIM Steering: RL Doors: 4 Engine: M54 Displacement: 3.00 Power: 170 (231 hp) Drive: HECK Transmission: AUT Paint code: 475 - BLACK SAPPHIRE METALLI Upholstery code: N6SW - STANDARDLEDER/SC Prod.date: 2002-01-21 S202 Steptronic S210 Dynamic stability control III S249 Multifunction f steering wheel S302 Alarm system P337 M Sports package S339 Shadow-Line S354 Green windscreen, green shade band S403 Glass roof, electrical S428 Warning triangle and first aid kit S431 Interior rear-view mirror with auto dip S438 Fine wood trim S441 Smoker package S459 El. front seat adjustment w. memory S464 Ski bag S465 Through-loading system S470 Isofix-System S473 Armrest front S481 Sports seat S494 Seat heating driver/passenger S500 Headl.washer system/intensive cleaning S508 Park Distance Control (PDC) S520 Fog lights S521 Rain sensor S522 Xenon Light S534 Automatic air conditioning S555 On-board computer V with remote control S602 On-board monitor withTV S609 Navigation system, Professional S632 Preparation BMW Handy (Motorola) S676 HiFi speaker system S694 Provisions for BMW 6 CD changer S705 M sports suspension II S710 M sports steering wheel, multifunction S715 M Aerodynamics package S761 Individual sunshade glazing S775 Headlining anthracite S780 BMW LA wheel, M parallel spoke S785 White direction indicator lights L812 NATIONAL VERSION GREAT BRITAIN S850 Additional Export tank filling S853 Language version, English S863 Dealer List Europe S877 Omission of non-combined operation S880 Operating instructions, English I particularly like that it has the optional M Sports Suspension II. "and the M5 uses recirculating ball steering not rack and pinion like this,"
And thereby loses some of the 'feel' of the 'lesser-engined' models. Good find on the exhaust nearer home, hope it works out for you. ![]() |

You may have better data then me but I don;t think the strut part numbers are the same for MSusp 2 and the M5 set up - perhaps just a BMW stock strategy ?

@Starbuck 88. What’s the rust situation like? Petrol filler recess, boot lid, sils etc?

I simply regurgitated what I saw 'multiple' I might add, people on BMW forums saying. A quick look on Real OEM and eBay for M5 parts confirms...not the same. Ha. Front ARB M5 27mm. Front ARB MsportII 25mm. Just for info. Standard is 22.5mm and M Sport I is 24mm. Useful for anybody if they come across here. Still very much happy it has the option upgrade to the standard sport suspension though. Wonder how much difference 1mm makes? Quote:

ECP have got up to 70% off all items, last day today. As I'm ordering a few bits for the bangernomics cars to get them ready for sale I may as well do a service on the 5.
I'm now wondering what oil to order. I know the previous owner had a service done when he got it in October but....he has done a lot of miles and wherever he got the service they gave him some oil 'out the drum' in a bottle to top up when needed. So just to be sure, I want to put some good stuff in it, with fresh filters. I'm going to put in Castrol Magnetec 5w-40 so that it lubricates better when up to temp. It exceeds the spec for when the car was new and fits all the recommended specs... ACEA A3/B3/C3 and LL04 I've never ever been fussy over oils before, so might as well start now ![]() Last edited by Starbuck88; 22-03-2019 at 12:27 PM. |

I put Shell Helix 5w 40 in mine last oil change. I’ve come round to the fact that it’s prolly more important to do more frequent changes with oil that meets the required spec, rather than spending loads in branded oil.
Try and stick with OEM parts if you can. |
