Film on bonnet I can't get rid of.. help!

Hi All,

I'm no detailer but I do like to keep my cars in as good a condition as poss.

I've had my current car, a black astra J estate since October and as much as I wash, polish and wax it there is some kind of film on the bonnet that I cannot seem to get rid of. I cant capture it in a photo and it's hard to explain but it's like a grimy film only on the bonnet.. if someone just walked past the car they probably wouldn't notice it but I do! It's almost like the look you get when it's got sticky tree sap on but it feels fine. In some parts it looks like water runs.

Anyone any ideas what I could try to sort this? I obviously don't want to damage the paint. I was worried at first it had been resprayed with it only being the bonnet and something had happened in the painting process but I don't think it's that.

Sorry for waffling and being a little vague but any help much appreciated.

When you say it looks like water runs, would you say dark runs on a lighter finish (so a wet look run) or more that the car is dark and its a chalky looking run?
