backing plates and pads

i'm new to detailing and thinking of using 5" pads and i wondered what the best size backing plate. I have a jaguar xf is this a good size or would a bigger one be better. i have a new DA which i haven't used yet i was going to use some lake country pads. How many pads would you use on a car this size? i require pads for light cutting for some swirl marks and for polishing do you have any idea which ones to go for my paint is medium hardness i've been told.

If you can get a 3 inch backing plate as well it will really help, for tighter areas and some curves.

Depending on how often you'll be using the machine polisher, you can get away with 2 cut and 2 polishing pads, but you'll go at a slower pace compared to a pad per panel. Just blow them out often and swap them out every panel.

Meguiars foam or microfibre pads are very good, ideally foam would be best for you as they are lower maintenance versus microfibre. Also Meguiars ultimate compound and ultimate polish are great products as well.

Take your time and do your test panel and it'll come out great.
