Why does it seem to me nobody can be bothered anymore?

I don't know if this is just me and this is a rant btw but why does it seem that people in general and companies can't be bothered anymore?

Latest example, building a bed for the little one, get half way through to the point where you need to fix in the supports for the lifting ottomon mechanism, where it would rest at the foot end....

You can't tell until this point, after following the instructions meticulously.

turns out...they've put the stickers on the wrong sides. Which now means I have to practically undo everything I've done to swap the ends.

Our new build house has had issues since day 1, people palming the problem off on somebody else, fobbing us off, now it's come a point where court action is the likely route we are going to take.

Where's self respect? Where's the pride in your work? Where's the attention to detail?

Nobody can be arsed to do anything in this country anymore.

(this isn't aimed at anybody in particular so please don't take offence but I assume most on here aren't as I describe above)

The main contractor who built your house has no staff other than project managers whose job it is to fob you off. They have no tradesman. They sub contract that out to many different companies who themselves probably take on self employed tradesman.

The main contractor has no-one who can snag your house.

The NHBC I found completely useless when I contacted them about a fault to the shell of my house.

Yup, it's all totally ridiculous. NHBC don't want to know with us either.

Another example of carelessness. Ordered a stand for something in a particular colour. Seller sends it in a different colour. Contact them, their first response was...'well it's the same stand innit'.

The problem these days is that just about everything is about using the smallest possible budget, the cheapest possible products/materials and doing it in the least possible time with the largest possible profit margins.

Sadly there's no incentive to "do it right".

Do it cheap....Oh Yes

Do it fast... Oh Yes

Blame someone else... Oh Yes

Take time to sort it out, make sure it's OK, and it's exactly what was ordered/required so the next person's life is nice and easy and wait for the "why have you only done half of what super whizzo "get it out, who cares if it's right" has done."

The flip side being "why can't we get good staff and why do they keep on leaving" Can't be anything to do with zero hours contract, poor conditions, unachievable targets etc.etc. can it?

Rant joined

Andy.

Because bildo has it spot on, how little can we spend to achieve the maximum profit is the mantra which is why Asda is insisting all employees sign their new contract. Wages do go up but they now have to work Bank Holidays and weekends and lose their company benefits. The alternative? You're gone right before Christmas.

Totally agree with what's been said about maximum profit for minimum quality but consumers have brought a lot on ourselves. We live in a throw away world where we want a new wardrobe every season, new furniture every few years etc so it is no wonder all we can buy these days will only last a few years?

Doesn't make it right tho!

Agree with all of the above. The world is full of shysters these days. You find very few who have pride in their work anymore sadly

I've said it the other day in another thread the standard of workmanship and skills in this country is appalling. It's especially bad up here in Aberdeen.

Start thinking about the amount of people and companies you trust to carry out work on your car, house or anything valuable to you and the list becomes next to nothing.

I seem to manage to find every work shy idiot in the country even if I'm careful to pick experienced and qualified people.

A lot of people think Brexit is going to solve a lot of issues. It's hard to point the finger at everyone else when the standards are so low internally. We can't sort our own backyard out as it is.
