Strange One

Here's a strange one

Sorry no photos to back this up but here goes.

Last Thursday my Bonnet an Near Side Wing got bombarded by the Seagulls while I was at work. I was a scorching day and the ****e had been baked on for at least 9 hours. Once I got home I washed the offending excrement from the car and sure enough the dreaded etching had occurred. After some research I decided that I would give the hair dryer technique a go when I was next off work (Tuesday). Now when I inspected the etching before I washed the car there was no sign of any of the etching at all.

So the question I have. As it has been scorching all weekend is it possible that the clearcoat has "reflowed" on its own accord?

No matter what has happened the etching is definitely not there now. Bizarre!!!!!

Cheers
Russell

Hi Russell,

Yes, its entirely likely that the heat from the sun has 'reformed' the clear coat. A good example of this is the Autoglym bird etching kit. Its a bit like a hand warmer in that you put water in, it gets really hot on the panel and then you remove it - no more etching!

Hope that helps
