KDS Keltec Ferrari F355 GTS Restoration Part Two.

Hi Guys,

I thought I make the most of this strange situation/opportunity while we are all in the coronavirus lockdown to compile the Very comprehensive Ferrari F355 thread.

This thread will be a very long in-depth thread of the full restoration that we carried out a few years back on this Ferrari F355 GTS.
Hopefully will help with those detailing blues and kill a few hours while reading through it too.

PART TWO is Engine removal, clean and paint.

The Very first part of the process was to give the engine and engine bay a proper clean.
We used a combination of Bilt Hamber Surfex, Meguiars APC, Autosmart Tardis tar and glue remover.
















After general cleaners and degreasers we were left with Tar spots, so that's when the Tardis came into play.








After the engine, and compartment and wheel arches were washed outside,
the Ferrari was brought inside and placed on the 5 ton two post full height ramp in readiness to remove the engine, gearbox, and subframe as a complete unit.

Notice the floor is red? , we were midway through repainting it to light grey.




We had a fully booked second-floor level as can be seen from this photo,
but we had planned to move the Ferrari upstairs to ramp furthest away from the entrance,
in other words, the LONGTERM ramp (where the Porsche 911 is in the photo) once we had cleared the current workloads.




Notice the floor is now grey?
















The two post ramp allows us to walk fully underneath any vehicle, and this makes it easy on your back and joints while stripping down cars.

Once the ramp upstairs was available, we moved the Ferrari,
this meant putting the engine and subframe unit back again with the minimum amount of blots required to keep it secure for movement by human pushing power.




Now the Ferrari is upstairs on half-height scissor ramp.







Once the engine was removed again upstairs on the longterm ramp, the project really did get going.
The next part was a combination of working on the engine compartment and the engine itself at the same time.

Here are some photos of the engine compartment before.

Caveat the during photos of how we made the turnaround will be linked into another part with all other associated same topics later on.









Here are the after photos (as I said these have new radiators and all the painted parts fitted, which we will cover later on)








Now some photos of the engine cleaned with just spraying diluted degreaser.



















On we are onto painting various engine and engine bay components with preselected specialised paints.
