Hi Guys,

I thought I make the most of this strange situation/opportunity while we are all in the coronavirus lockdown to compile the Very comprehensive Ferrari F355 thread.

This thread will be a very long in-depth thread of the full restoration that we carried out a few years back on this Ferrari F355 GTS.
Hopefully will help with those detailing blues and kill a few hours while reading through it too.

PART FIVE The Underneath, under guards, badges and windscreen.

So the next chapter of this write up of a Ferrari 355 restoration starts with the underside of the vehicle.

We have to remember the age of this car which is 1996 and was designed in the early 90s when you consider those facts again surprised how excellent the condition is.
Also, that Ferrari was making cars which had smooth floors and diffusers.

Here are some photos with under guards (let's call them shields) removed to show the floor bare and its pipes on view.

Here is the selection of products that we experimented with to get the desired results.

Here are some of the shields before the second clean, remember in an early chapter that the car was washed the best we could do underneath outside in the wash bay.

It was very evident that the Ferrari had been painted before by the amount of overspray on some of the air ducts.

Here are two examples of before and after scrubbing with tardis, paint thinners to remove any overspray.

Here is the largest main shield after clean

We decided to paint on a rubberised protective coating, acts as slight sound damping and more for better appearance.

Here are two photos of air duct which has had the rubberised coating applied.

And a photo of flat shields.

I will wait to show the results when we get to the chapter of the finished complete car.

The lights were looking past their best as can be seen from these photos

New genuine Ferrari lighting was purchased.

The difference is obvious

New sidelights and indicators were purchased too.

The rear lights were just polished to remove the dullness and hazing, before

After

This brings me onto the badges

It would, of course, be criminal to leave the old tired badges and stickers.

This photo sums up why it would be criminal to leave the badges.

The wheel badges being genuine Ferrari purchase came in a slightly larger diameter than the original and darker shade of yellow.

So I had to file down the outer edge very carefully and then sand afterwards to get them to fit correctly.

New chrome wheel bolts were also purchased.

Lastly, was the front windscreen replacement.
The screen that was in the Ferrari had suffered from a crack after a stone hit the screen.

For this task we used https://www.glasstecauto.co.uk/
Goes with saying Paul from Glasstec comes highly recommended.

A few shots of the screen removal

That concludes Part Five. The Underneath, under guards, badges and windscreen.
Many thanks for reading any question, fire away.
