Hi Guys,

I thought I make the most of this strange situation/opportunity while we are all in the coronavirus lockdown to compile the Very comprehensive Ferrari F355 thread.

This thread will be a very long in-depth thread of the full restoration that we carried out a few years back on this Ferrari F355 GTS.
Hopefully will help with those detailing blues and kill a few hours while reading through it too.

PART SIX, The interior and seats.

So the next chapter of this write up of a Ferrari 355 restoration starts with the interior of the vehicle.

Anyone who has dealt with detailing a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati will probably seen and had the pleasure of the sticky button/switches situation.

This Ferrari also suffered from it too.

The first thing was to strip down the interior and then subsection the parts into groups, and this was because we had different coloured leather parts, along with the plastic switchgear.

The interior and carpet had random grubby marks

The marks were also on the other leather panels.

Here is more of the sticky switch panel photos.

We removed the sticky failing coatings from the plastic panels and switches using tardis sometimes more substantial paint thinners.

This was done with great care and a prolonged process, when I mean slow, I do mean slow using cotton buds and dabbing the solvents on to soften and lift away the coatings.

The carpet was cleaning using APC and soft nail brush and then a lot of vaxing.

The dashboard has some wear and tear and staining.

Most of the interior parts were recoloured (in the same colour) in the spray booth using small spray guns.

Here is a single example of the air vent after we recoloured it, no more sticky and looking lovely again.

I will save the finished items for the finished chapter; all I can say is the total transformation is stunning.

The dashboard and rear panel was coloured in situ.

Here is midway through of the door cards

The fabric had faded, so we dyed that too.

The rare optional carbon seats also got the special treatment too.
First was to address the trim edging that was lifting away, so we set about refixing this around the seat edges.

Next task was to clean the seats.
This shows how dirty they were.

One interesting note is how different on the seat was to the other after cleaning.

We tested the colour (well shading)

It was not just the seats that were being recoloured in the spray booth, remember the grouping of items together?

Here is a photo of the seats in the spray booth.

And here is a single finished photo after being sprayed.

More of the finished photos yes you guessed it by now, in the finished chapter still to come.
The carbon shell of the seats was not in the best condition; here are some great photos of what can be done with just machine polishing.

While removing the small carbon panels that cover the adjustment, I was pleasantly surprised to see this.

It has a toothed gear wheel and belt. Not what your would expect to see on seat adjusters.

Here are the carbon covers in question.

So they did not look like that, the last 2 photos are after we rubbed them down and then lacquered them.

Here is a before example

Here another carbon cover rubbed down waiting to be lacquered.

And the after photo.

That concludes Part Six. The interior and seats
