Hi Guys,

I thought I make the most of this strange situation/opportunity while we are all in the coronavirus lockdown to compile the Very comprehensive Ferrari F355 thread.

This thread will be a very long in-depth thread of the full restoration that we carried out a few years back on this Ferrari F355 GTS.
Hopefully will help with those detailing blues and kill a few hours while reading through it too.

PART SEVEN, Wheels, Brakes, Carbon sill covers and mirrors.

So the next chapter of this write up of a Ferrari 355 restoration starts with the Wheels.

The wheels were in excellent condition, luckily no buckles, dents of corrosion, so they needed tidying up, we decided in keeping with the rest of this project to get the best possible finished possible.
Here is a before photo.

Nice to see that factory sticker still on the rims when the tyres were removed.

We wet sanded down the original paint in readiness for wet on wet primer.

All masked up.

Here is the finished, primed wheel

Then next part is to wet sand down the primer in readiness for colour and clear coat.

Each wheel was hung up to apply the silver colour coat.

Then the wheels were placed onto a camera tripod of which I fixed a vehicle hub bearing, this means we can walk around the wheels and if needed rotate the wheel to get the best overlapping even finish.

Here are three after photos.

Once the paint had settled, and the tyres fitted we wet sanded the faces to give them that extra wetness and pop that you just don't see on factory wheels.

Of course, you will get to see the finished wheels in the finished chapters.

It was decided to change the colour of the brake callipers from black to red as per factory option.

Here are two before photos.

Here are four finished after photos.

We also address the tired-looking carbon fibre sill covers.
Here are three before photos showing the defects and average factory finish
.

A during photo before lacquering.

And here are three after photos.
As you can see much better.

Here is a tease photo of the sill cover fitted onto the freshly painted body.

Lastly, in this chapter are the door mirrors.
These had suffered from light corrosion as shown in these photos.

We took the bases back to bare metal.

Mirror casing primed before colour and clear coat.

After the application of base colour and clear coat.

And these black corroded mirror bases all prepped and painted.

That concludes Part Seven. Wheels, Brakes, Carbon sill covers and mirrors.
Many thanks for reading any question, fire away.
