Giving up for my own sanity.

I've been getting progressively less willing to leave my car in some public car parks because of door dents and other damage that gets picked up. Today I parked away from other cars but came back to find some parked next to me and watched as his elderly farther opened the door right into my car leaving a dent and taking the pant off. He's agreed to pay for a repair but what's the point of trying to keep the car looking nice in a world of people that frankly don't care?

I couldn't agree more, I regularly walk far greater distances than I need to to use carparks that have decent sized spaces, rather than the cattle crush ones, I despair and never go near Supermarkets unless I can find a spot where I think staff park so have a chance of no damage.

I was sat in my wife's immaculate little Astra in town where we live and this family of idiots came back to their wrecked old Peugeot the Dad and driver BANGed the door into my wife's car so I surprised the carp out of him by opening the door and giving him a mouthful! I was irate at the moron!

But,, all that aside I still get pleasure detailing and probably will for a long time to come,,,

its called herding (probably because they are animals) their natural instinct is to park next to someone else even though you"ve parked out of the way, they don"t know why they do it or even realize that they do it....they just do it.Should be legal to process them in to burgers and pies

This annoys me no end. I'll park furthest away from the store, in a space surrounded by empty ones and you can bet your last penny someone in a great big 4x4 will park next to me. They'll then struggle to open their door due to the tight parking space and hit said door off of my paintwork.

my wife even is saying to me let us sell your porsche and get something cheaper so you could leave it in the parking lot without having issues.
she never realizes i do this even when we drive there in her Aygo - i just care for my cars, no matter of their prices...

I'll probably cheer up a bit in a day or so but it'll be something I'll see even if repaired every time I clean the car until I hand the car back at the end of the lease, hopefully the repair will be good enough that the post least inspection doesn't flag it.

Sometimes when I'm waiting in the car, you realise just how careless people are. I can see them fumbling and stumbling past cars swinging their bags, keys and whatever else they have, obviously incapable of walking carefully around a car. I always find an end bay out of the way, equally I will more often than not happily walk the extra distance into town. Luckily my car is a smaller than most which helps me to leave that bit more space.

Wow, glad I’m not the only one who worries about parking and try to avoid supermarkets full stop and certainly at the weekend!

Parking at work is a nightmare to I’ve resided to cycling to work instead rather than worry about my car being damaged all day. It does mean my car spends most of it life on the driveway but it’s my little enjoyment and still brings a grin to my face when I take it out!

Mom had her new to her Jazz about a week before some mouth-breather dinged the door. Society in general gives less of a **** about their own stuff in a throwaway world, leave alone other people's stuff. I'm paranoid about my car worth 78p. I'd never leave the house if I had something tasty.

Well at least my week wasn't as bad as it was for one person on a Renault Zoe group I know who returned to a cracked front wing with a foot print next to the crack!

I'm going to try a couple of chip/dent specialists and possibly get a few other things seen to at the same time, Kia paint seems very brittle and comes off at the slightest stone chip.

We have a little C1 for running around in and I must admit this car rarely gets cleaned. Unlike the A5. But I was in the supermarket car park waiting while the wife ran in. This elderly guy parked next to me while there were lots of spare spaces around and hit our car door about 6 times while trying to get out his car. I couldn’t believe it. I had a little moan at him and he just smiled. I let him off a full rant as he was getting on

Some of them actually do smile and sometimes roll their eyes like it's not "that" important, maybe if you followed him home and trampled his flower beds then just smiled, shrugged and walked off maybe he would grasp it,sorry I've gone full rant on this but why can't people think?

I have 3 cars. A cherished S2000 that does around 50 miles a year and sits in the garage. A 2009 FN2 Civic Type R that I use as a runaround and a new Civic Sport Line that the wife uses as a daily. My wife doesn’t give a **** about cars which gets on my wick but ultimately not much I can do about it. Likewise the CTR has become something I’ve started to obsess over even though it’s worth very little. I put it down to the kind of person I am. I value things and work hard for the little things in life. I also would rather look after things than pay for repairs and replacements. It frustrates my wife but it is what it is. It’s who I am and I’m not willing to change. She’s welcome to meet someone else if she fancies LOL.

So frustrating. When I lived in England I had an E90 BMW that I babied and had to witness other doors going straight onto my paint. Parking in ultra tight spots because there was nothing else available was scary. In Spain I had a MKVII GTI that I gave up on. Spaniards don't know how to park and have no regard for other vehicles...their cars are simply a tool to get from point A to point B. Now I live in the SW USA and have a G01 BMW X3 M40i...which is black and also the most expensive vehicle I've ever owned. Suffice to say, I baby it. It's easier to find really good parking spaces with no other vehicles around (may have to park further) and the spaces are wider than in Europe. The roads are wider also, which really helps with keeping the wheels perfect. But now I have to worry about tumble weeds in wind storms lol. Admittedly they are easier to recover from if there is damage...can be a light scratch that can be buffed out by hand.
Sometimes I wish I just didn't care.

Once I parked in an empty car park, first car in there. Lady followed me in driving a Range Rover, decided she'd park next to me, misjudged it and smashed the tail light and surrounding area of my 6 months old Volvo.
To her credit she paid for the repair and hire car.

I went to Scotland on Hols. Parked on an incline at the side of the road when a guy parked in front of me and let his car roll back to rest on my front bumper.
He was about to walk off when I told him. He gave me a mouthful, jumped in his car and sped off into the distance.

I just park the Jeep where ever I want...the joys of having an old battered machine!:devil::devil::devil:

Got fed up of parking the S8 anywhere, not because of damage, but parking fines because I hadn't "parked within the marked bays"

I took both Nottingham and Glasgow council to task for not supplying bays big enough to allow me to park within them.

I actually took pictures of the car within their bays, showing that I couldn't open the door to get out as they were too narrow - and smaller than their own published parking space dimensions.

Apparently the real way to fix it was for me to get a smaller car, not for them to try and con people....

 I though you were going to say you won, but then again that car is massive and you have no right to own such a big car you naughty boy:lol:

Much more cheerful today, going back and looking it's only a tiny mark, I even got motivated to give the car a quick wash and wipe over with QD. Only finished the wheels before the rain started so will be another day now, but at least made a start :thumb:

Yeah, I'm also the guy that parks miles away and won't park in certain/lots of spots in packed carparks. Not my girlfriend's favourite thing about me...

Avoid cars with baby seats, any child on board signs, as well as banged up and dirty cars.

I'll happily park between an M3 and an Aston Martin because I know they aren't going to want to bang into my door, probably just as much as me!

Problem I've found is that a lot of people who come and bang into your car door (with banged up and possibly uninsured cars) are the type of folk that you don't want to be getting into a ruckus with.
