Dad's taken up detailing

So at the age of 75, my dad's only gone and got obsessive with car care!

For the last ten years or so I've done the odd decon, clay, polish and wax on his cars but he's never really thought about it in the same way that we do on here.

Fast forward to January and he bought a top of the range MG3 on a 64 plate and is completely smitten with it, so much so that he spent 4 hours with some Meguiars trim restorer going around all the black trim and it now looks absolutely immaculate.

Anyway, it got me thinking about his birthday in a couple of weeks and I decided to get him some decent car care products. As he's had a heart condition for nearly 20 years, he gets out of breath incredibly fast so I didn't want to get anything too intensive. I was thinking more along the lines of letting him do a decent basic level of upkeep on the MG so I've ordered him:-

Optimum No Rinse
Optimum Poli Seal (not sure about him being able to work an AIO properly but we'll see)
Optimum Optiseal (doesn't get easier than this does it?)

I'll do all the decon and proper polishing with my DA (already done a few weeks ago) but I think he's pretty much set.

Well good on him, never too late to start. Here’s another gift idea, how about getting him a personalised car wax? There’s a few very good guys on here that will make you a coloured, scented, ease of use wax to exactly how you specify.

I hadn't thought of that but I do think a proper paste wax might be a bit much for him.

I'm just browsing some QD's for him, might go for the Optimum one just to stick with the other products I've got him.

I suffer from a chronic lung condition and those are the exact products I use for exactly the same reasons! For ease of use as a system I think it's hard to beat the Optimum line up, the fact you can go panel by panel and stop whenever you need to without having to worry about anything drying and staining gives me peace of mind I'm not going to make the care look any worse!

You picked up an excellent combo of products. I love all 3 of them. To top it off and give the car some final extra bling also buy him some OPT Power clean and Opti-bond for tires.

Yes they're great. I first used the range ten years ago when I first joined the forum and I do wonder why I moved away from them.

I just got to the last ml in my 4 year old bottle of opti-seal. This thing seems to last for ever. Now I have 2 more bottle to use up I wont be able to buy another opti-seal bottle for 10 years

Firstly, that’s great news - won’t be long before he’s telling you how to do it

If you do fancy trying a wax, G3 supergloss is very easy to use and a nice wax, giving great results.

My current favourite is DetailedOnline Surreal wax - so very easy to use and excellent results

I suffer from cystic fibrosis and I must say I still use all the potent stuff which makes me cough like mad and then I have to put my ghost buster pack on(Ollie the oxygen). Worst I think is all the iron and wheel stuff. But there isn’t any that I know of that are good and don’t cause breathing issues.

How about also a car blower to dry after washing . I will be getting one soon as the drying gets hard so I’m sure your dad would find that to esp like me the lower parts of the car.
