My car of the day, Nismo Leaf race car.
Can you believe it? a Nissan Leaf race car!. Well as you can see Nissan's Leaf engineers have been allowed to run wild and enter this car to the Formula E race events around the world from next year so have given the Leaf the Nismo treatment. The engineers have taken battery technology and drivetrain from the standard Leaf and re-calibrated the two electric motors to produce 240 KW( that's 322 BHP in old money) and 640 NM of torque. The car is made in full carbon-fibre construction and weighs in at 1,220 KG. 0-60 is timed at 3.4 seconds which shames the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. The Nismo Leaf RC features an adjustable rear wing and sits lower to the ground to help cornering ability. As I said earlier Nissan plan to showcase the Leaf RC at next years formula E race events around the world.

I'm good with that, whether we like it or not, this will be the future of motorsport and motoring in general. I will have stopped driving before this becomes mainstream if you like but it will happen.
I saw a video on youtube over the weekend of Tiff Needell driving a Tesla Model S race car. That thing hops along a bit

Looks like it has real purpose - something I feel is missing from the consumer Nissan range, really like it!

Racing will never go electric.
There is an argument for electric cars on the road, especially in congested areas, but racing is more than speed. Noise and smell are big parts of it. |

Good looking car but I hope racing never goes electric, although it would be easier to sleep at Le Mans
