Next bit for the Xsara bought!

Whilst away on holiday, I picked up some car bits for a chum from Bodmin as we were close (4 X 15" rims, a radiator and a pair of morrettes for a 106......god know how I got everything in the car, but I did.....!)

Whilst there I was talking to the guy (really nice fella actually) and he happened to drop into conversation that he had a set of GTi6 calipers, painted red, with carriers and Goodrich braided hoses.......wanted rid and would let them go for ÂŁ40. So they came home with me too!

Picking up the VTR tomorrow so hopefully get these fitted Sunday...

Well, stupid me didn't realise the hoses were for a 106 although it should have figured.....

Anyway, calipers fitted and bled....took about an hour in total. The use of an easibleed kit and an old Ph2 VTS alloy (I knew they'd be useful for something!!!!) made it a simple job.

Not hugely visible but there if you look. Compliment the red VTS badge quite well.

Today was VTR collection day.

A very wet start, with the weather gradually improving as we headed west in Wales. A 16', 2700kg trailer (was all they had left) was certainly a bouncy affair empty, but other than an intermittent Electrical fault with the left light cluster, all was good.

Collection was from a small town/large village outside Newport. Last 15 miles of roads were fairly narrow and very hilly but we made it there. Parked up in a rugby club very close to the seller and met him. As the car drive, he drove it the very short distance to the rugby club and onto the trailer.....with no exhaust it sounded fruity!

Anyway, onto the trailer and strapped down by 1pm, we headed home. Back home by 4:30 and then a dash to drop off the trailer.

At the load up point

The most agricultural wing mirror ever

By 6:30 pm

And parked up!

So far, I've buyer for:

Wings
Bonnet
Bumpers
Lights
Crash bar
Crash bar brackets
Beam

So the breaking is going pretty well.

Already off the car and gone are:

Wings, bumpers, headlights, crash bar, one crash bar mounting bracket, passenger side wing mirror.

To go this week/weekend:

Bonnet, other crash bar mount, gearbox, engine, beam and some minor trim bits.

It turns out the cat is an original OEM Citroen cat and worth ÂŁ60 to a scrappers from the code printed on it. I've had a guy badgering me for two days about it so tonight I finally got it off the car. Sent him pics etc. He says yes, great, I'll take it. How much.

'ÂŁ60' says I, and attach the screenshot of the cat value from the scrappers.

'I'll give you ÂŁ40 mate'

Why would I take ÂŁ40 for something that I can very easily get ÂŁ60 for? ............radio silence. Wouldn't sell it to him out of principal now. Suspect he buys up cats knowing their value and makes money by reselling or scrapping. Not on this one, 'mate'........

Anyhow, plenty of bits left to sell, and if they don't, I'll pile them all in a bit plastic box and file it in the garage. Be worth something to someone at some point. Pretty much everything I'm keeping will fit the VTS too so all good. Again, more spare for mine. Window regulators, switchgear, door lock units, door handles......the list goes on.

I'll keep the steels, they will be handy for moving the Rallye around and I'm certain my friend will break another Peugeot/Citroen and sell its alloys so will need a spare set to move that about....

Excellent news - virtually paid for the motor in 1 go there :thumb:
Yep, pretty much. Updated the spreadsheet today. If everything goes as planned and agreed, just over ÂŁ500 profit, not including what I get for the shell.

"mateyboy" offering ÂŁ40 , with a local recycler offering ÂŁ80,, Chancer ,,
Yes, my thoughts exactly, especially as I've not heard a peep from him since..

Car was into CG Cars in Leicester this morning to have the Aircon checked and the exhaust sealed.

Aircon was first. Being 18 yrs old and knowing the relative frailty of these systems, I wasn't hoping out much hope. Imagine the suprise when Carl connected the machine to find there was still has in it! Not a huge amount but the signs were good.

Ten minutes later and the machine is starting to fill the system with gas as it's held a vaccum for 10 mins....result!

So I've now a Xsara with fully functioning air conditioning. It's not the coldest ever but it definitely makes a difference. Massive thanks to Carl on that one.

Onto the exhaust and no such good news. Resealed the backbox joint but the centre section silencer box has split. A fairly common occurrence by all accounts. That Danny might have a bit more welding to do!!!

Continued stripping the Xsara today. There isn't a huge amount left to take, other than the floorpan sections for the guy who had the ones from the VTS breaker earlier this year. Hermes lost a bloody enormous great parcel...

I've made some serious money from this car! Profit I expect to be ÂŁ800+ by the time I'm.finished which isn't bad for a ÂŁ100 car with no MOT!

I also scored an absolute Gumtree bargain today. Been after my own engine crane for a while as I keep borrowing friends ones. One popped up on Gumtree last night. A Clarke CFC100 engine crane. ÂŁ200 new. ÂŁ50 and 40 miles away. Guy said it had a very slight leak and was going to get his garage to fix it. I said don't bother, I'll sort it.

Collected it from a house full of bees (I kid you not....was the oddest house I've ever been too... downstairs windows boarded up, house an absolute mess and full of bees, inside, guy was 65+ and dressed like a scarecrow and was a bee keeper!!!) and did a runner as fast as I could...

This is where the slight leak was from. 1/8th of a turn of that and it stopped leaking but the cylinder has clearly lost some oil as won't even get to 90°.

I checked the fill plugs and....

Yes, a Tek screw through it. I ordered a new 8 ton cylinder for ÂŁ20 off eBay. My mate who breaks cars has gone halves on it with me. ÂŁ35. Utter bargain.
