I picked up a new (to me) car this afternoon.

Unfortunately, the dealer had "treated" the leather interior to a coating of some horrible shiny stuff.

As well as looking ridiculous (they now look like plastic), the high sheen means that you slide about on the seats.

What's the best way to remove it?

Mild soap with warm water or something like 3M, Dr. Leather wipes or Gliptone leather cleaner.

I was thinking along the same lines eg, a weak APC solution then Dr Leather wipes.

At the moment it looks crap.

Sounds good to me or simply try The Dr Leather.

The only reason I was thinking about APC first was to try and remove whatever nonsense they had applied prior to the Dr Leather.

I wouldnt touch it with APC,hand soap as suggested imperial leather or dove,'wash' your hands work it in with the lather on your hands wipe off with a damp cloth and treat with your leather topping of choice,i'd go for Zanio leather in a bottle (Z10 I think)

I had this with a previous car and the dr leather wipes seemed to pull the shiny stuff up, and after a few goes they left a nice matte finish

Nothing wrong with apc on leather as long as the ratio is correct. I use it all the time on my cars when the kids spread mud on them.

I'd start less than that tbh, most apc's are highly alkaline. Try something like 1:20 first, if it doesn't work then up the ratio. Least aggressive method to get the job done is always better imo

Stupid tapatalk isn't letting me edit. Meant to add, wash with plenty of plan water after too :thumb: don't drench it but a couple of wipes with a damp mf would be my choice
