We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform!

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s face it. Sometimes older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn’t include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software.

The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth but the days of dealing with out of date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to building a world-class community for you. The development has been steady with regular software releases since May 2019. Asking members for feedback and coming up with ideas for improvement is what we want.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Our algorithm will serve a personal customized feed based on your prior engagement with content on the site. If you’ve liked and or commented, or are following certain topics that are of interest to you, similar content will appear at the top of the homepage.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, to help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing over the first few days after migrating. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Finding Your Way Around
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

Clicking your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

You can also navigate more by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations - Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase - Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
Take a tour and look around! Check out the Help section for some quick FAQs about the new platform.

Please keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc. regarding the new platform right here in this Feedback thread. This will help us make sure not to miss a request for help and also let us pass along your thoughts to our Product team. The Admins and I will be here to help along the way taking note of your comments.

I will be here during your transition to the new platform, to help with any questions, help with navigation or how to do things, and to listen to your feedback so please don't hesitate to holler at me. I want to help. You can also check out our FAQs.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mike D. I was born and raised in SW Pennsylvania and currently still reside in the same small town where I grew up. I come from a large family that grew up looking out for, and taking care of, one another and we still get together quite regularly. I spend a lot of my free time with my family and close friends, mostly watching sports, particularly football, baseball and/or basketball. When able, we do like to try to get to the beach once a year, but that doesn't always happen, lol.

Please don't be afraid to explore and test out things to see how they work on the site. :)

Although you can certainly use the "insert image" icon to upload an image to your post, you can also just drag and drop it to the text editor or even copy/paste it into there!

You can easily share videos just by adding the URL directly into the text editor!

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display automatically just by adding the gif URL directly in the text editor. Try it!

I am a huge fan of the dark mode for the community. What is your favorite feature?

The new forum software is still a work in progress.

We will be seeing regular updates which are largely fueled by community feedback. While that doesn't mean we can action every request, it does mean we will be actively listening to the feedback and sharing it with the developers. We do ask that you keep any questions, thoughts or feedback about the new forum software here in the Community Feedback thread to help us keep all the information together so we don't miss anything.

There is still some work going on behind the scene so you may notice some changes as we work.
  • It can take 24-48 hours for the site to finish indexing so it may take a bit for search results to return proper results, including showing all your threads/posts under your profile.
  • We will continue to clean up the order of the sections on the full forum listings page so you might see some stuff move around.
  • We are reviewing permissions and special permission sections so let us know if you notice any issues so we can look into them.
I have worked with our community support team for almost a year, but I have worked with forums for almost 20 years now. I will do my best to answer any of your questions and if I am not able to, I can find someone who can.

The thanks count is missing too :(
There are "Reactions" that you can choose when wanting to react (like, love, etc.) to a member's comment/post. It is located at the bottom of each post.

Also, you can hover over your avatar or go to you profile and see your reaction score. Your reaction score is the total positive reaction score to your content on the community.

How do i lose the adverts on the righthand side and make the forum fit the actual page, i don't need 3/4's of a screen, i want the whole width of the screen.
This feature is available as a Premium Member of the site.

Another question, how can i make the font bigger so i can read it ? Oh and dark mode works better, everything blurs when its white, i'm not sure the layout would meet visual impairment.
There are settings within your browser and/or device where you can adjust the font and settings to better suit your preferences.

Ok, so I can only see 3/4's of the screen unless become a premium member ?
Not necessarily. What I was meaning was that one of the benefits of Premium Membership is the ability to remove the right column so you can concentrate on discussions better.

Posts/new threads from earlier in the day have disappeared.

Great start and those ads on the screen are a flaming nuisance.......the end is nigh for me personally as I for one don't like the new format.

It's like FB, peppered with adverts.

Oh joy!
Yes, some posts/threads that were made during the migration to the new software today, may have been lost. Other than the ads, is there something specific that I can assist with helping you with on the new software?

I am not always a huge fan of change myself and I truly understand that change isn't something that always comes so easy. In my humble opinion, a successful community has never been about the platform. It is about the amazing members who come together to share a common interest and along the way, true friendships are developed.

Good to see this is exactly as we were warned, right down to the announcement message. Was sad to see the concerns raised in the previous thread were glossed over each time in favour of what looked like pre-written responses.

First impressions, it's awful, and I'm also getting the ads, along with a request to send push notifications. If that's the cost of the new forum, give me the old one any day of the week.
Is there something specific you don't like or I can help you find?

Also, as for the Push Notifications, the community offers push notifications if your browser's permissions allow it. You may see a popup in the community allowing you to enable these permissions for the site.

You can also enable/disable push notifications by clicking on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and selecting “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu.

You will now see left side navigation. Select “Preferences”.

Scroll down to Push Notifications to set your preferences.

Enabling push notifications will enable them for this device only. If you log out of this device, you will need to re-enable push notifications.

Manufacturers and Private Label Brands won’t be happy as hidden behind a sub section, wouldn’t these be better as traders regardless if the make there own or rebrand / white label. it doesn’t even show the latest post from the forum home page, you must go into the sub section to see who’s posted, (other than new posts button)
Those were already listed as sub-forums before the software migration, as far as I am aware. Also, hoping this may help some with navigating for new posts, etc.

Navigating The Site

Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

You can also navigate by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Clicking on your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

I am completely lost with this site now, being 62 years old just about able to log in to the new site.
what is enable push notifications ?? why can't I click not now and the box disappear ? or do I click never .....
oh just tried that and the box is still there

One good thing is I don't see any adverts I use Firefox and adblocker as advised by my eldest computer savvy daughter
Luckily she understands a lot more about computers etc. than me , she got me on here tonight (y)

That da.. push notification box won't go away
If you are running an ad blocker, that can affect the Push Notifications. If you are able to turn the ad blocker off just so you can disable the Push Notifications, that may solve the issue for you.

Yes in a sub section but was visible without having to enter it and you could see the latest post and all brands / company names, a rework to have these displayed should be reviewed. As to me they are hidden in a sub section, as they are all traders at the end of the day.
Ok, understood. Now, you would need to click on the "Sub-Forum" link to show those, as described here.

nope that didn't work
Did you also try choosing "Never?" Or, have you tried disabling via your Preferences and making sure this box is unticked?

also check your user setting as i see all the boxes have been pre ticked (which i thought was against GDRP) for emails and other notifications.

  • Receive news and update emails

You may find additional email options under Preferences.
I will escalate this concern and get back to you.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cricket. When I was born, my father told his friends I was the ugliest baby he had ever seen and sounded just like a cricket (I was born with the hiccups.), so yes, I have been Cricket for a very long time now. I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. I spend most of my free time outdoors and exploring the back roads. During late autumn, when it starts to cool down, I disappear from the world for a bit for camping trips and hiking.

The ruling
In short, the ruling states:
  • Pre-checked boxes, even on a cookie bar settings page, are not allowed;
All consent to advertising or personalisation related cookies needs to be acquired through an explicit action, like checking a box or actively clicking an ‘I accept’ button or both.

and this and many other boxes are pre-ticked
"Email options
  • Receive news and update emails"
I sent you a private conversation for who to reach out to with your GDPR concerns.

Re adverts, I use an iPad, and viewing it in landscape, I get 1/3 of the screen (RHS) as adverts.
But in portrait, no ads!

Finding old posts - particularly my own - will take some getting used to.
To find your posts/discussions started, you can hover over your avatar and you will see your "Posts" and "Discussions" started. Also, if you go to your profile, you can see where you can see all of your replies, discussions and you can also click on "Latest Activity" for anything you have done recently.

Rectangle Font Parallel Slope Circle

TBH, I liked the old style, my default setting was ‘new posts’, which literally just showed the postings since I last logged on. Now it seems to show others as well, albeit with a break.
You are able to filter out new posts to make it more suitable for your preferences. Maybe this will be of assistance to you :)

How To Filter New Posts To Only Display Specific Section(s)

You can accomplish this by setting a custom default filter on the new posts page.

Step 1 Navigate to the specific forum you want to focus on and click "Follow Forum".
112089

Step 2 From the navigation, near the upper right-hand corner, click on NEW.

This will open a new page of new posts for you. On the new page, click on filters.

Now you can adjust the filters to work for your personal preferences, such as the example above and save it as the default.

Make sure to click the "filter" button to save it, at the bottom.

As a quick note, as a community designed to inflict the least damage to their cars and paintwork as possible, the header image of sponge, wouldn't that be more suitable being a wash mitt or similar.
At some point, as a community, we can take a look and revisit the header design and possibly discuss implementing a new one (y) .
