I've been an idiot, I topped the engine oil up and didn't put the cap back on
Cue oil going everywhere so now need it properly cleaned....

My concern is oil getting on the hoses etc which may perish over time. The car is a BMW E65 745i and am willing to travel. I've heard steam cleaning may be the best option but is this risky?

Many thanks!

Luckily the oil cap was still there.... Topped the engine up (luckily had around 4-500ml left in a top up bottle in the boot, wiped it down as best I could with that I had and then out the cap back on and hey presto, it was idling and driving fine lol.

I don't think it went below the min mark judging by the fact the oil dipstick min to max mark is 1L and I didn't put in more than 500ml and it's over half way between min and max....

Thanks guys!
