Hi
Been a member on here for quite a few years. Lurking in the background and reading a lot of very helpful guides and reviews. The reviews are only the reviewer’s opinion but still a very helpful insight to me and helped me a lot. Got a decent number of products based on reviews on here. Some were great and some were underwhelming, probably down to the way I used them. I've had my snow foam gun for a very long time so I thought I would treat myself and get a new one and give back to the community by writing a review.
Before I start my review just want you guys to know that I've purchased my Autobrite and Griots foam lance with my own money. The MJJC v3 was sent to me for free for review purposes but that is not going to have any effect on my opinion.
I own one of older type Autobrite snow foam lance with the narrow bottle style that I've owned for 10+ years. To make the review fair I have serviced the foam lance with a fresh new filter.
The media I used was EZ car care artic meltdown snow foam diluted 5:1. My pressure washer is a Nilfisk c130.
The Autobrite snow foam lance gave a decent amount of foam and the controls at the top are smooth. This was my first snow foam lance, so I was very happy at the end result. The only thing that was bug bare for me was that its not very stable. Its very top heavy so found it toppling over. Autobrite did release a newer bottle version with a wider bottom to counter this though.
I purchased the Griots The Boss foam canon from Amazon US after watching many good reviews. Couldn’t find one in the UK so had to purchase from the Amazon US website. Paid £99 with free delivery. Its on the high end of pricing when compared to other foam lances. In the box I got the foam canon, coloured metering tips and 1.1mm primary jet if you’re using a lower powered pressure washer.
The quality of the canon is impressive. The metal work is stainless steel with the Griots branding etched in. This just oozes quality and looks its built to last.
On the underside there is a second set of threads so you can screw in just the Griots branded product bottles of solution without using the main vessel.
The controls are slick and smooth. The pickup pipe is soft and squishy with a heavy weight attached to help get every bit of solution in the vessel. The solution vessel is opaque and the volume level is decently visible. The quality looks quite good and tough. The vessel itself is quite big with a decent size opening to pour solutions in without spilling over. I’m quite a small chap so the solution vessel was a bit big for me. In the box I also got a small packet of coloured tips. These metering tips are meant to be inserted in the pick-up tube. This then allows neat solution to be used in the vessel and it should dilute itself as it dispenses, Griots call this the Auto-Foam. Don’t think ill ever need these so back in the box they go!!
Using it was a pleasure. Felt weighty but comfortable. Full or empty the foam canon stood on its own pretty well with no chance of it toppling over. Griots also give a lifetime warranty.
Whilst researching which foam canon I should buy; a lot of people were liking the MJJC v3. I reached out to Alice at MJJC who sent me one to review. But this will bare no bearings on my opinion. These are retailing at about £70 on various websites.
Initial impressions were mixed. In the box I got the foam cannon,
The metalwork on the main body of the valve is brass which I was slightly disappointed in especially after seeing the stainless steel in the Griots.
The vessel is transparent which is nice, but the material looks weak. In the box you got the foam canon, spare o rings and a 1.1mm primary nozzle like the griots.
Despite my reservations initially, the brass valve body was actually pretty decent quality with MJJC logo etched in. Maybe I was expecting more due to the fact everybody loves these in reviews. Being made out of brass isn’t actually all that bad, my original Autobrite lance is made out of brass and nearly 10 years old and still performs as it should. The controls were super slick and smooth. Pleasant to use and operate. The pickup was soft like the previous foam canon with a stainless steel ball attached to ensure you are picking up every last bit of solution.
The solution vessel looked cheap and weak initially. Having taken a closer look I was wrong, dead wrong. First of all its clear and looks good. Looks even better when you have solution in and you can see exactly how much is left. The volume markings on the side are part of the moulding and can be a little difficult to see. On the neck of the are some o rings which will prevent leakage due to its party trick. No threads on this foam canon. Half a turn. That’s all. Taking the valve body on and off several times to see how it holds up. Wanted it to fail or something to break. It didn’t. fitted and removed the valve head about 40 times. 40th time felt like the first time. Not too tight and felt secure.
Before I did the physical test I did a PIR test on each foam canon.
Autobrite – 13.6 litres
Griots – 12 litres
MJJC v3 – 13 litres
I then I mixed up so snow foam solution and applied to my car.
The Autobrite snow foam lance was sprayed on the rear quarter of the car. Big bubbles and some stuck to the car but slid off after a few seconds. Some stayed on but there were some dry patches in which I would have reapplied some foam.
The Griots was used to spray on the rear passenger door. It applied nice and thick. Bubbles were a lot smaller. The bubbles clung on to the car a lot longer than it did compared to the Autobrite lance. It was a decent weight to hold and comfortable.
The MJJC v3 was used to spray the driver’s door. It applied beautifully with tiny bubbles. Had the consistency of loose whipped cream. This mixture stayed on the car the longest compared to the other two giving it a longer dwell time. Due to the shape of the bottle, it was a pleasure to hold. Everything felt nice. Being tall you’d assume it would be unstable and topple when setting it down but it doesn’t. Like the Griots, this was nice to use.
My thoughts, the MJJC v3 is worth every penny. Totally class. Out of the 3 if I had to buy one, it would be the MJJC v3 and then the griots. MJJC did send some shampoo to do the review with but I thought it was unfair on the other 2 foam canons hence why I used the EZ car care snow to make it as fair possible.
If you did manage to read all of it then thank you. If I could have done anything differently then please let me know. Any feedback welcome.
