The new GR Corolla hasn't officially gone on sale and yet Toyota has already produced a special edition called Marizo which is the nickname of Toyota's president Akio Toyoda. The Morizo edition benefits from a number of upgrades to give it more bite. Toyota have tweaked the 1.6 litre three cylinder for bigger torque that's jumped from 370 Nm to 400 Nm. And to complement the added torque are a series of weight saving measurers that mean the Morizo edition weighs 45 Kg less than the circuit pack. The savings were made by removing the rear seats, rear door speakers, rear window regulator, rear wiper and motor and new 18 inch forged wheels. Other lightweight measures include a forged carbon fibre roof an aluminium bonnet and aluminium front door panels. New front brake ducts have also been fitted. Engineers have also developed a closer ratio six speed manual gearbox to help improve acceleration. Toyota have fitted red-painted monotube shock absorbers and unique suspension tuning "for a precision driving feel fit for racing". Only two body colours will be available which are Windchill peal white and Matte grey.

Whilst it ain't pretty I am pleased generally about Toyota's new attitude towards giving us good performance cars like in the old days.

Shame it's not in the UK. Wonder why?.
